Green is cool but given you shouldn't see the bedding when the metalwork is in place you may wish to consider cutting back the top edges and then filling with a matching wood dye crayon once the action is in place. I did this with my hornet and when the wax-like filler starts to break-up/ware down simply add some more and burnish to the height of stock edge:
