The Perfect Stalking Rifle

I have seen Dorleacs work many times on John Hahns forums, great stuff indeed.

I want a .416 Rigby,...and I cannot see why you pick schite that they are made with Mauser actions..what is wrong with the Mauser actions?

I really fail to see your point in condemning the Rigbys

I`ll have a bet with you...I will shoot far more deer with my rough piece of schite Rigby than you will with your 20 times better choice ha ha.
You fail to understand my point I'm afraid.

There's nothing wrong with Mauser actions, it's my favourite action of all..I wouldn't shoot anything else apart from that and BRNO.

My condemnation of Rigby is not their rifles as tools..it is the way Rigby is making themselves look to the industry, they make the world think they are this great innovating and creative company that makes and 'manufactures' their goods, when in fact they are not. Their apparel and accessories they have nothing to do with, their rifles apart from finishing, they have nothing to do with..

They are excellent at marketing their brand and reviving it, but IMHO, they are no longer excellent gunmakers.

I love the 'OLD' 275 Best Rigby's too, a good clean example on a pre war oberndorf, I mean, just sweet and stunning, but that's about where I draw the line,,

Shooting 'most' deer imho is of zero importance, any rifle no matter how old or cheap can shoot deer.. I'm talking about the 'company' that is today and their lack of integrity, it has nothing to do with their rifles...the rifles that are supplied to them by Mauser Isny are great rifles..I mean, I can pick holes in them as the wood is cheap and a few other things, but wonderful rifles...mauser rifles of course, not Rigby rifles.

So now the rifle is ok as a tool AND THAT IS WHAT I WANT IT FOR a tool to hunt with and if it gets scratched and worn that's the way it should be instead of being brought out of the safe when the port is poured and the cigars are lit.

Their apparel and accessories they have nothing to do with,
Geezus mate,I couldn't give a tinkers about accessories and other schite and where its made or who by..its the Rigby rifle that I covet not the add ons.
All the add ons in house or out of house wont make a rifle shoot.
You condemn them for not in house making a few belts slings and whatevers ffs?

Porsche? Synonymous with 'great name" have done lots and lots of outsourcing...do they make schite cars?

no, but Porsche put their cars out from a factory they run and manage and assemble in..same with Boeing, etc.

Rigby however, don't outsource components and then assemble and manufacture, they virtually just get the finished product in and then touch it up, re-brand and out the door again.

Nothing wrong with companies taking pride in that, but Rigby are trying to make it seem like it's their work, and it isn't, that's where it irks me

My perfect stalking rifle.

1) Interchangeable barrel so it's a suitable calibre for anything I want to shoot, & confidence it will return to zero, or a rifle dedicated to a task

2) Good fit, shoulders well for shooting free hand, easy to cycle

3) Accurate enough to give me confidence, to shoot at any distance I'm comfortable to shoot,

4) Ideally, something that puts a smile on my face !

Mauser/Blaser Isny

It seems as though you are suggesting that they then don`t know how to build a decent rifle?

I really think that your condemnation of the Rigby name is so over the top that it borders on true gun snobbery.

I had a look around online and came to this "Mauser will supply barreled actions to Rigby in London, where they will be stocked, proofed and finished. "

Nope,, you are misled by your anxiety of the subject matter once again buddy ;-)

The know how to build a gun properly, they just don't 'build' guns anymore, they are build 'for' them basically.

They are supplied barrelled actions, with sights, and stocks are also supplied for them, pre cut and ready to use. When they say 'stocked', they refer to being slotted into a pre cut stock which rigby didn't do either..

There is no gun snobbery going on, in fact, it's 'anti' gun snobbery...or 'anti' full of sh!t manufacturers!..

William Evans btw, is even worse!...but then again, I don't know when they sold a gun last time, could have been years ago...suss...

I have a Rigby, built 1968. It was very tatty. Just been refurbished by Paul Roberts formally of Rigby. I will be picking it up next week and I am very excited. It is .257 (7 x 57) Mauser. Photos to follow.

My first proper roebuck in Sussex in September 1995 - yes, I should have opened the bolt, but I was by myself. I hope that #6027 is still going strong & I should not have sold it.

Actualy I think PKL is being quite measured. You might as well get an oberndorf or granite mountain and get someone to build it using decent parts. They currently come with Timney trigger and Sassoon barrels. You'd think for the money they'd have a BixnAndy and a Krieger. Makes me wonder what other mediocre bits are specced

Jf you have never had a .257 Robert's, you are in for a treat. Heavier bullets than a .243 Winchester at lower velocity, mild recoil, lots of penetration, deer dropping like a wet dish rag.

I'm guessing 20-250 just bought a rigby highland stalker and now realises that it's actually just a new isny mauser 98 with a few differences to grip rounding and sights fitted when it was received and distributed via Rigby,,LOL...at least the ikea grade walnut has been nicely polished and filled...
