POLARIS RANGER

Who has/uses one, good? bad?
I'm thinking of getting one as I'm getting older now and while still tough enough to brave all weathers [well, at the moment anyway]
maybe wise enough to welcome a bit more comfort, and longevity.

I use one..... I like it... tested the mule and the gator and opted for the Polaris as it has active descent control and turf mode which are helpful.
Ours is a diesel and isn't bad... but not the fastest.

There are others out there that will be cheaper ...

I have access to a gator at the moment, it seems pot luck as to what part will fail or fall off next, brand new not yet a year old, wiper motor packed up, door locks fall apart on a monthly basis, everything in the cab seems to be ill thought out and flimsy, as soon as you go offroad it seems to like tearing its own mudflaps off as they touch the tyres as soon as they get muddy, it goes on,its only a matter of time till one or both glass doors are shattered by a branch, or something fall onto them from the inside. I have heard good reports on the polaris, I was told to avoid like the plague anything with jcb on it, and avoid the cheaper golf cart types.
speed is not a major concern, but what would top speed be?

I think it is 1 of those questions if u ask 10 folk ud get 10 different answers.

I know folk who have picked gators over Polaris's for various reasons and quite happy with them.
I think if u cut all the brand's up and stuck all the best bit's together ud have a cracking buggy.

Polaris have a lot of bushes etc which tend to need replaced with time, esp if ur hard on them.
Bit dearer to maintain than a quad.

My dad has a small 1and loves it, cheaper on fuel than his 700 Yamaha.
But he doesn't push itvery hard

The 1 thing I would say, esp if ur keepering ( dunno if u are) is they are a good bit heavier and very easy to load/overload, so if travelling to same wood, gate, trough etc every day esp over wet field's u soon end up with rutts/mess.

The 6x6 are real good thou if in wetter ground, see a lot on moors now instead of Argos

Was speaking to a Poralis dealer on Friday night and he has just put one out with tracks. Going to someone with very boggy ground and the ground pressure is so low he has been caution not to get out if he gets stuck. If the Polaris bogs man will disappear without a trace!!

yes I recently saw one on tracks, they just bolt on in place of the wheels, it looked very capable, but I don't think I need that option, if its that wet I'll get the punt out. ;)
Is there a member on here with a tracked quad or sbs?
I'm sure I read it a while back.
of course if the xr lot are accurate it'll all be under water soon
then I'ma get me one of these mofo's
just the ticket for the Norfolk swamps.

The newer ones have better bushes and less to go wrong..... if you put bigger tyres on they have better ground clearance.... which is one reason I didnt like the mule as it is lower and heavier....
The gator was another 3 to 4k dearer for the doors and fenders to stop mud flying into the cab.... and it was very numb on the road.
The diesel polaris will do 40mph on the flat and it also has a system that slows it down under it's own engine braking and cuts down on brake pad wear.
Its horses for courses..... but I'm talking from experience. I also had a go in a can am.... it wasnt bad....

thanks for that, It's looking to be the clear winner as far as I can see so far. :thumb:

One thing I do detest is the fact that the lights are on constant.... not the best for stealthily lamping.... and they are on the ignition switch which can be a bit confusing at times. Other than that I'm very happy with it.... oh... it's worth having a winch .... I have one that goes front or back..... a godsend for the couple of times I've bellied out in forestry machine ruts..

The can ams are quite good, bloody flying machines on the road too.
I rarely drive it and not fast, some off other boys reckon it will do close on 70mph on the road.
Bugger that

A lot might also depend on ur local agent how good they are for servicing and getting parts

Bloody hell it's going to be lethal round those lanes.
It's bad enough with the Harley and your lorry:lol:. Now your poor Mrs has to put up with you flitting round on a quad with a cab:rofl::fox:

Un
Ten minutes I doubt..... and it's still under warranty so I'm not thinking about doing it myself yet!.... and the main dealer wont be cheap.
understand the warranty bit but surely its just a case of finding teh live feed and fitting a toggle switch in it

Have you considered the KAP Landmaster iirc.
It’s a Suzuki Jimny modified into a pickup on low ground pressure tyres.
I have a Jimny myself running on 31” x 10.5” tyres which left less of a mark on very wet ground than the farm quad. I intend to convert it myself as the rear arches are shot.
