Post your rifle setup including weight

Here are two more I just put together.

Top is a Remington 1903 with a Unertl 12X on a Belding & Mull scope mount.
Bottom is a Remington 1903A3 action with a star gauged NRA sporter barrel, M60 flash hider and 10X Unertl. The NRA sporter barrel is slightly larger than a service grade barrel so I still have some inletting to do to float the barrel before shooting it. I may hunt with that rifle this year.

I think the scant stock is original , but is that a repro stock on the A3 ? If it isn't , that's the nicest stock I've seen in a very long time . And where did you find the Unertls ?

Bump in the hope that people will share opinions on a light .308 for me. A shoulder injury is making carrying heavier rifles unpleasant at the moment.

If your looking for something light, then as the name suggests a Tikka T3X lite would be ideal.

You then need to think of a light weight scope and to be honest your looking at a fixed mag scope if you want it to be the lightest.

I would then get instead of a Harris bipod a Javelin lite bipod and that takes all the weight off the rifle until you need it.

Moderator next would be something in either aluminium or titanium to keep it to its lightest.

Thanks for the reply. No need for a bipod, quad sticks have me covered. A DPT muzzle can is the norm for me so it's going to be another of them. I'm wondering if the Howa Superlite or carbon stalker thing at 4 lb 10 oz would do me as I could keep a decent scope and still have a light outfit that way?

End of the day you will need to see how you get on with a light setup and how your shoulder reacts.

I wouldn't want to fork out on anything until you actually try something light first. Possibly try someone else's light weight setup if you know anyone or possibly someone with a light air rifle to have a good walk about for a couple of hours.

The New Carbon stocked Sako is tempting me at present , Thinking of another 243 win because i dont fancy getting a good slap every time i pull the trigger on something that shoots much heavier bullets and the subsequent delay in lining up the next beast ( if that's the plan ).
I also had a bad shoulder a good while although its fixed now a switch of stock and a lighter scope really helped . Big scope , moderator , laminate stock etc is brilliant until your carrying it all day and stuggle to take quick off hand shots

Not many people can shoot a light rifle well, choosing a 308 only makes this harder as perceived recoil will increase.

bar 1.webpwin 94.webp#3 july 23.webpBrowning 81 BLR 308 win, recently added a nikko sterling 1x4 boareater, 8.1 pounds loaded. Ruger #3 223, now wearing my venerable zeiss diavari 1.5x6, 8.0 pounds and last but not least win 94 pre 64 30/30, showing a vortex red dot since sold due to my astigmatism, 6.3 pounds. All the guns are 40 plus years old, Winchester is getting a scope as soon as the side mount reaches me from the states as my eyes ain't that good nowadays. When that happens the zeiss will go to the winchester and I have an original Redfield Widefield 3x9 to fit to the Ruger.

Hmm.
As per many posts above - heavier bullets = more recoil.
I lifted a bare Sako Carbon recently - extraordinarily light. Love to hear it how it handles .308 but defo not a range gun!

Starting to fancy getting one , maybe not 308 though - Likely another 243 because light rifle and 50% more bullet weight is not any advantage in the UK

Nowadays I find it a little barky but for strenuous stuff it’s great. I wanted a rifle I could shoot offhand. The low overall eight plus muzzle heaviness makes it very easy to point and shoot.

I have just recently done a fair drastic chop on a 223 , a few tried to talk me out of it but i still did it , thank goodness it works real nice with the moderator balance wise and no place near a meaningful drop in velocity with CFE powder used . I took the chance because soon enough i am re-barrelling, cera-coating and pillar bedding it anyhow . Barrel was a bit pitted when i bought it anyhow and a re-barrel and re-build was always the idea .
The Rifle ? Sako 75 bought sight unseen and RFD posted to the most local RFD , described accurately over the phone to me by Ivythorn .
