Being new here, and not having a massive online presence at all I was wondering about safety.
So when I joined here some of the info regarding making an intro said list rifles calibres etc to make your comments etc more relevant.
I've been asked in response to my intro what rifles/calibres i use for vermin. I could sit and post pics of rifles and explain but does anyone else see a safety issue there?? Do other members do this regularly? Police firearms usually advise against such things, that said this is a shooting group, but can't non members access the page and see posts?
I'm really interested to hear other members opinions on this.
 
I don’t publish info that could personally identify me on the open forum so it would be rather hard to become a security etc issue. Anything personal done by PM with known members.
Living comes with the risk of croaking, but we mostly still get up in the morning and manage the risk.

Just list them a deer stalking/vermin calibres, there are several threads on show us your set up...what "rig are you running" sounds like something from the 70's CB days lol

I went to OHIO and spoke back to my Dad who I had set up my radio 1kw amp and 6 element beam pointing in the right direction...got him twice in a week. Just he forgot about swearing lol Duck me boy good to hear you, ducking concreate was late today...stuff like that bless him

Apart from possibly being called Mike and possibly being from Halifax, nobody on here will be able to identify you unless you spill the beans to someone. Which I guess you would only do if you absolutely trust them.

Yes, in general keeping the fact that you have guns secret is no bad idea. But there's always going to be a group of people that do know. Your family for starters. The police too and other shooters you know. It's inevitable too that sooner or later a neighbour will see you putting a gun slip or two into your car. Although with that, I always check the coast is clear before going out. But even then, dressed for stalking or game shooting when you go out is a bit of a giveaway.

Some would say that you shouldn't hide the fact that you shoot and promote it at any given opportunity. Mmmm, maybe not at every given opportunity.

But the thing is, you can generally identify people of your acquaintance who might blab to anyone that you have guns, most often without thinking of the consequences, or those who you wouldn't trust anyway. Those, I would do everything in my power to keep in the dark. But there's no accounting for every eventuality. A lot of shooting equipment for example is bought online. No doubt from good, honest businesses. But whose to say they don't at one time employ a rogue? I could go on. A bit of a risk assessment mindset is probably a good thing.
 
Agree with Pedro on his points made.
I don’t advertise my ownership of firearms. However with a little bit of looking at what I’ve bought on eBay it would be easy to work out I may have a gun….common sense must prevail. As long as you don’t publish your address it quite safe. The only way to be 100% sure is never go on line, but you may struggle with FAC renewal….and I also agree regarding the one upmanship that goes on, lots of people with guns who could hit a cows arse with a cricket bat, but will tell you you have the wrong calibre, the wrong rifle etc etc….

Simple really, you sign in to this forum under a sydonime, who's going to know who you are?
Also we want to make sure that we are not receiving a member who is an anti or Spammer. We also don't need to know your life history or how many rifles or shotguns you have. Were also not asking for photos of any rifles you own. And if you don't like the rules you can leave at anytime.
We welcome everyone to the site, but we also want to make sure we have the right people joining.

I got "Top Trumped" properly yesterday by a chap on here.......we are in conversation offline about going to the Wild Deer Association Ireland "Fun Shoot" in a couple of weeks, he said he may take his .375 for a laugh....I thought I was with the big boys with .30-06!
 
The weak link in the chain is the sales section. If you buy something, the seller needs a postal address. Only one person who has purchased anything from me has given me an obvious work address—it was to a firm of solicitors. Most folks provide a home address.
 
I think it best to conduct actual sales of firearms via your local RFD for the exchange for most folks . I don't really agree with total secrecy of owning firearms at all ( if that ever comes in , it will be disastrous to shooter recruitment ) .
