During the Eighties us" Wildfowlers "manned a big part of the BASC stands at the Game Fairs. I cannot remember which one but during the day John Anderton walked onto our stand with Prince Philip. We were introduced to him as a group of Wildfowlers and then by name, to which he replied "ahh REAL SHOOTING MEN" One of our lads said to him we have a Photo of you Sir on here to which was produced a large photo of him in a Gunning Punt opposite the Lighthouse in the Nene. His reaction was to laugh and said" we don't talk about that put it back". We certainly had a good Game Fair after that. Wf1

At the Blenheim palace game fair, 2008/9 I think, my gf had a broken leg so we hired a ‘madge-mobile’ ( after Benidorm) electric scooter. I left her parked against the main arena fence near the commentary box while I went to do some shopping.

When I came back to her she was nowhere to be seen. The DofE was presenting long service awards to keepers at the same spot and there were about 30 men in their best tweeds, Prince Philip and his people and the photographers all surrounding my awkward- looking girlfriend. I don't Recall what he said to her but an attractive young woman, on her own, and in a mobility scooter had plenty of ‘foot in mouth’ potential I’m sure.
