Prompt service from my doctors practise, Firearms Medical Form

My FAC renewal is up in December. Dyfed Powys say to apply a minimum of 16wks prior to expiry.
I decided to start getting my ducks in a row.
I dropped the form into my local surgery Monday morning.
I had an email asking for payment of £60.00 and told to expect a 30 day wait, that was yesterday.
I paid by bacs last night, I had am email today that it's ready for collection or posting.
Incredible service.
Lets hope the renewal goes as smoothly.

Wish I could say the same. Contacted them after 10 days, only to be told there's a significant admin backlog, and they've not even looked at it yet. I've still got the cursory 'up to 30 days' wait for my full medical records to be accessed, and that's from when they do decide to look at the paperwork, which could be another 3 weeks. Not holding out much hope of getting my FAC application in before Christmas at this rate. But it'll only cost me £48, which is nice.

I do find it slightly baffling that there's such a range in terms of cost for this exercise to be completed.

The GP in my village surgery does mine when needed. 5-7 day turnaround, £35 and emails me a digital copy of the completed form to upload as part of my online application. Brilliant service.

Mind you its deepest Herefordshire farming country where every other person seems to own a shotgun or firearm, so it’s run if the mill for the surgery.

I paid £125 doctors fee it’s outrageous the inconsistency of fees see it as just another attack on firearms ownership.
There a thread running on this forum regarding people giving up on shooting my advice to anyone thinking of quitting don’t let them grind you down be defiant and keep renewing FAC /SGS as long as possible.

Yes, the same as mine. Handed in Monday, got an e-mail Tuesday afternoon saying it was ready. Collected Wednesday £55.
And there was me worrying about delay etc.
Unfortunately my Doctors appointment is still 2 weeks away, probably too busy filling in med certs

Being Canadian this doesn’t apply to me but I’m curious as to what the medical certificate is for?
Is your Doc declaring you physically or mentally fit (or both) to own firearms and do they perform an examination to determine your physical or mental fitness?

Or is it just a money grab?
