Proofing boots

My Le Chameau Mouflon boots have started to leak :( They're old, but far from worn out I'd say. They've been superb boots, but suddenly I find I'm getting wet socks just by walking through wet grass. The boots are a suede upper above a deep rubber welt (the newer Moulflons are all leather I see) with a Goretex lining that obvious;y doesn't do it's job anymore.

What would you recommend for making them waterproof again ? A good dosing of Scotchguard ?

If their gortex and letting in water. Chuck em and get a pair of meindls.harkila lechemeau are not in the same league as meindl low zamberlain etc. :thumb:

As said above if the goretex lining has gone which it sounds like it has I would buy a new pair or keep them for dry days when you know you won't be walking through puddles and wet grass

Or get a pair of Haix boots ,far cheaper as has been said if the goretex membrane is breached their done .I had 3 years dry and once my boots leaked nothing reproofed them atb

You can labour away with any combination of dubbin, Nikwax, Scotchguard, tent reproofer and so on, and frequently, boots may stay wp for a while but not breathable and boil-in-the-boot for summer. Sealskinz socks and wet boots is another option, been there ... or bite the bullet and buy new boots!

If the Gore-Tex has failed, no amount of treatments will fix it. Sealskinz socks are what the military issue in conjunction with non-waterproof desert boots for use on the odd occasion when it’s wet. Your boot gets soaked but your feet keep dry and therefore warm. I used a pair when my well-worn but comfortable wellies sprang a leak a couple of years back. I had to wait for replacement stock to come in over Xmas. Sealskinz were a workable solution if you want to keep old boots. If not, either chuck them or use them as a dry weather boot only.

If you really want the boots fixed, you could try:

I am not connected to them, but have used them years ago and found them to be very very good at repairing high end outdoor gear. The weren’t cheap. I see they are selling Lowa boots at good prices.

goretex socks
I wear them all the time even with wellies
Warm (not too warm) and comfy

I seal all my boots with either snow seal or a blend of harder waxes that require heating to soak in
softer waxes "wash out"
liquids dont seal if you already have a leak through the goretex

unless you can get to the liner you are polishing a turd though

As I guessed then really... Just wear them for dry days and wear one of my many other pairs of boots when it's going to be wet. Shame really as these boots are just so comfy.
Thanks guys.
