Simple question really, is there double the quality for double the money if buying the helion?
I had an albeit brief look through a quantum lite last week and I was pretty underwhelmed if I'm honest, especially hearing generally good reviews of it, so it left me wondering if there was a price related difference between it and the next model up, as clearly it's not a small step up in cost, any opinions welcomed.

A consensus seems to be forming that the quantum lites are good for spotting that something is there, particularly larger animals like deer, but not very good at identifying exactly what it is you're looking at.
The Helions seem to be much better at spotting and identifying smaller targets like foxes.

Double the money? Like for like the Helion is actually cheaper. Or are you referring to the XP series (rather than XQ) - which has the 640 sensor over the 388 version of the XQ?
Very different viewing experience IMO. Worth is very much in your perception and use.

Quantum lite XQ30V - £1299 (not see nay significant discount on this price)
Helion XQ38F - £2089 (but you can get it down to less than £1900 if try hard enough)
In principle they both have the same sensor (17 micron 384x288 pixels) and the difference between a 30mm focal length lens and a 38mm focal length lens isn't huge.
The detection range for a fox sized target with the XQ30V is approx 800 metres and for the XQ38F it would be 1000 metres
The Helion has all the fancy bits like WiFi and on board recording, a much better battery set up and new case design
The lites are basically the old XQ models but with smaller lenses
If you don't need the fancy bits, then the Lite appears to be a far better deal.
However, from many reports, it appears that the lites are using a significantly less good objective lens and there is also the suspicion that they are using a lower grade of sensor.

The quantum lites are ok for the money, in fact for the money there a bargain. But the image quality is not in the same league as a Helion XQ. You can pick up heat sources on rabbit sized animals at 250yds and fox 350yds, but the focus adjustment is limited and terrain not as detailed as helion models due to the flat lens...But the price is low and there better than any competition in the price range.

They do the job, no doubt about it, but it all depends on your budget and your needs, spend more your going to get more features and better image, but do you need it?

Personally I think the Helion XQ38F is the best unit in terms of performance for price out of all the units, offering a decent field of view and image detail, but I would not disregard the quantum lite if my budget was tight and I wanted to get on the thermal ladder, they will definitely help increase your rabbit/fox/deer count..

I have the Quantum Lites in stock and will have more stock this week of other units, give me a PM for a good deal if your in the market..
