It's still work in progress, but have ended up making a jib that slots in to a mounting tube on the back of the quad and then uses the winch cable from the front hooked round some pulleys for the lifting.
Free standing it should be good for up to 60-70kg without leaning over too far and then if lifting something heavier we have a leg that slots in to the bottom and has been tested with over 120kg on the cable - he won't admit his full weight, but suspect a bit more than that.
The cable just unhooks and can be wound back in, the leg slides under the rear seat and just trying to work out the best storage for the job, but may sleeve it so it can be broken in half with both ends in the storage box.
Overall it has worked out well I think. Hope to put in to use at the weekend.
