Rifle officers (those deemed most suitable for animal dispatches) carry 7.62 but seeing as it was done on welfare and public safety grounds the deer act is irrelevant anyway. When HAD comes up on here a .410 shotgun seems to be the choice by many.

That local force could have used personel with torches while vehicles park accross roads to guide its direction.

308 is usually used for animal control by police, or when dealing with cattle running down motorways etc, 308 shoulder pinning shot , followed by 12 g slug to the head if I remember correctly.

It is a shame it had to be shot, but imagine the uproar if it ran into a road, caused a family car to crash killing a family….

I always cringe at the “you could tranquilliser dart it”…..does anyone have these mystical darts outside of Africa?

Quite common to see white ones in the herds around here. They all look the same with the jacket off.....

What was the backstop like? Probably of less concern than had it been a Deer Manager secondment scenario as I doubt the Police Sniper was issued with all-copper.
