Just been quoted nigh on £1500 for a re-barrel and Cerakote of said barrel and action. Me thinks I need to shop about a bit…

Any recommendations to give a call to?

What price did you have in mind?
Assuming you're having your action Cerakoted as well as your barrel, and you're having a premium barrel fitted, possibly throated to suit a particular bullet, £1500 seems fair, if a 'smith and coating shop of good repute is doing the work.

Match grade barrel fitted by most good smiths, brux , krieger.
That being threaded and end cap and proof

£1050
Phoenix may be less a few hundred

Cerakote circa £250-300 colour depending, then more if you want action and trigger etc etc

You aren’t too far away from correct in regards to pricing.

It quite often surprises me when I hear about how much (and how little, in some cases) what people charge for rebarrelling work

The price quoted in the initial post is not the most expensive I know of (add another 300 quid)

The client should always make their own decision on who they get to do their work basing that on previous reviews on line or known in person (recommendations) , own judgment of “value for money” , what are you getting - quality barrel or not,,,

Be cautious of following a band wagon of folk who advocate “go there go there go there” yet haven’t made the step themselves hoping in vain to curry favour (there is quite a bit of this going on)

Also a feel when speaking to the person who will do the work, do they actually listen to you and your needs, do they sound genuine, do they show interest in you, have experience of what you wish to achieve with your build / re barrel , have they done this work before

Etc etc etc

I also have to say that in my case, it’s as much about whom I choose to do work for too - whilst I have the same overheads as any other rifle smith , I do not rely on this as a sole income so can pick and choose what I do and when I do it

👍🏻

Take a look at the price of Blaser spare barrels 🫣
At least when you go to a recommended gunsmith you can get advice and choose material, twist rate, profile and length etc for your money......

For that money your getting I'd assume a top end barrel....kreiger for example
Cerokote barrel and action possibly your not far away from going rates I've heard of
Take Into account is Smith local ? If so cost of being local and not having to RFD etc is worth something in terms of hassle / logistics

Sometimes paying that bit more is worth it ?

Ps: Worth reflecting one may purchase a very serviceable barrel with both action and stock for half the price the Op was quoted. That is if you can bring yourselve to shoulder a Tikka M595!
