Re-introduction of Large predators

Got sent a study on the stakeholder views on the reintroduction of large predators and was surprised I'd not seen it here first

There's some background and view in a magazine by the same author as the study here

Eurasian Lynx Reintroductions - what do you think?

maybe you'd like to have a view on sharing your permissions with a Lynx, I personally would love to see them roaming the wilds but then I'm not a sheep farmer

Consensus was they would be singular territory holders, very careful over other Lynx being in territory, & Roe were going to be the main prey, dropping down from above them.

As the primary issue appears to be mankind's inability to live alongside other apex predators why not run a pilot scheme in a fenced area with deer that need controlling and has public access? On the face of it Richmond park would appear to be the ideal location rather than simply dumping them on some unfortunate rural community.

You would also need enclosures with sheep for comparison

Ask the farmers where this has been done already, eg. Norway and Sweden for example, to learn about their coexistence experiences.

Or just open the gates on the enclosures between lynx and wildcat ( our rarest large remaining mammalian predator) at Kincraig and ascertain whether its ‘purring pussies’ or feline felony…

That sounds good in theory and hopefully it does allow the public to enjoy nature and the countryside more.

"Sustainable intensification" is what it was being described as a few years ago, and it does make sense.
Basically, intensify agriculture on the productive land, and reduce agriculture on the less productive areas.
But it's going to involve more things like dairy herds housed 24/7 (which the public, in their ignorance, object to) if there's to be any chance of delivering a net gain to wildlife while continuing to produce food for a growing population.

A trigger has just been rescued from Ukraine and relocated to a collection in Lincolnshire, that gives us 3 sites with large predators available for release.

Just waiting for some do gooder

FFS.....and please forgive me for being blunt.......
We can't even look after the wildlife we have here at the present time, but the clowns in the rewilding industry want to throw another animal into the mix. We have at present the red listed Atlantic Salmon, closely followed by the Sea Trout that may be heading for extinction.....followed by the Capercaillie and the Red Squirrel, but the virtue signallers want to re-introduce Lynx. And presumably after that Wolves and Brown Bear. All of which were last seen in the UK when the population was in the single millions and not the 70 million that we have crammed into a small island today.
I despair, I really do.........
Rant over..... I wonder how many sheep farmers/shepherds were asked before this rubbish came out???

Down here in ground next to Rutland Water permission is being sought to enclose woodland and put Grey Wolves, Brown bears etc into it. It goes under the name of Wild Rutland and people will be taken round the area which is quite large. Now to my mind Brown bears would need extremely good fencing to contain them considering their climbing ability. Used to have a Black bear skin ........

That's just to frighten the immigrants.
