Real life testament on cheaper scopes true abilities in the field

From my own experience Hawke, Sightron and Vector Optics are very impressive bang for buck, I've never took a shot with either and thought oh I wish I'd spent more on my scope.

We are living in the golden age when it comes to value for money v scope quality, a bad workman blames his tools.
I agree got 3 vector continentals and they great I’ve had had them next to a z6i and victory ht and they have got about 5 or so mins on last light but for German made glass at a great price point there ace I’ve a 5-25 on my playing rifle and Tracts perfect

Can’t go wrong with a GPO 4-16x50. It’s a great all rounder SFP, good range of parallax and illumination. Amazing value second hand.

I've only ever bought budget scopes. I'm not wealthy.
The best I've had are Weaver, Nikon and Leupold older models.
I've done fine and never had to dump any other than real tat on airguns etc.
I've had friends spend thousands and that is fine but they didn't seem to shoot more!

I be honest there's more hate in expensive but then there is on the cheap Chinese stuff personally the best scope I have had is a karl kaps 2.5-10×56 which was probably £700 at the last CLA game fair i stuck it on my .243 barrel on a blaser zeroed it that week and havnt touched it since its been faults less I'm currently running 2 swaro's , karl kaps , S&B and meopta all great scopes I've tried hawke, bushnell, vortex and leupold all in my opinion had poor field of view and poor image during low light but I still have shot deer with all of them of all the cheapest scope options I would say the simmons WTC was the best but sadly no longer avaliable

That’s the thing - the biggest variable is the big lump of organic mush that is pulling the trigger, not the rifle of scope.
Case in point: I rocked up to a Bisley shoot with my club a few years ago with my Remington 700sps with an MTC Taipan scope on it and my Winchester 70 with a Nikon scope on it.
We were shooting at 600 yds.
The lad next to me had a Sako TRG with all the trimmings, topped with a £2.5k S&B scope.
His rig cost c£5.5k - more than both of my rigs put together, and I consistently out shot him all day. In fact it took him 2 details (20 rnds) to get it dialled into the distance whereas it took me 3 rounds on each rifle.

Not saying that I am an amazing shot (I’m not) but competence plays a huge factor in how well the equipment works and despite spending mega bucks on his kit, this lad was out shot by a hunting rifle with a £270 scope on it!

Simmons Aetec. 3.8-12x44 AO.

Have them on my .223, rimfire and FAC air.

Do exactly what I want and need them to do.

What's shot is no more dead because I looked at it through a grands worth of glass.

Each to their own. If what works for you ensures the kill is quick and clean then it's achieved its objective. The price is immaterial.

The same goes for the rifle it's mounted on, or the sticks it's rested on etc etc.

Dread to think what his scores would have been, had he been using your setup! 😘🤣

Hi.
I was the lucky bugger to win an Athlon rifle scope in the Fieldsports GB draw. It's 4.5 - 27 x 50 mag. Never heard of this manufacturer, it American comes with a lifetime warranty no questions asked. So far its accounted for 14 neck shot roe.
A cracking bit of kit. The price tag was still on the box when it arrived £569.95, I feel its more for the long range target shooter because of all the twiddly knobs, but it certainly does the biz for me.
regards
Alan

For many years I had a Bushnell Banner 3-9x50 on my 30-06 and I hunted from the Scottish hills to Africa, many airline trips etc. and I never had to re zero. I never felt that spending 1k would improve what I was doing. i now have a Swarovski 6x42 bought for less than £200 and it does have better glass than the Bushnell, I also have a Bushnell Legend 4-12x40 on my 243 bought new for £200 I love it and if I do my bit it always puts deer on the floor.
I would always rather spend money on hunting/stalking than kit.

Current favourite is my 7.5x50 GPO.

On my .243 and to my eye very similar to a 2x8x42 Zeiss Conquest on my .308.

Illumination can flood the picture if up too high, but on a lower setting is ideal.

I paid less than £230 new for it as was on offer.

Very capable scope.

A Zeiss Conquest new for £230? has it got any chinese markings? :)

I have a Hawk Sidewinder on my 17HMR for the money it’s very good, never had an issue with zero creep light gathering ok but not in the same league as my Z6 and Z8 but very different price points

Clearly your time on the continent stops you being able to understand written English....😉

Zeiss was compared to the GPO that was the object of the post ....and was substantially more than £230......
Shall we start a slanging match? Simple quick read and missed what was written.
I do though enjoy my time on the continent as the folk over here are generally more polite in my experience.
