What scope would you put on my rifle? Disappointed in european hunting scopes offerings..

20× is too much for me but a lower magnificstion pm2 would work well.
How's that? Is somebody forcing you to wind up the mag if not needed? Only thing I could come up with is, you want to be able to crank to max mag (w/o look etc.) and have a mag you're used to judge distance, quarry size etc. You can make valid points that e.g. weight is too much but not so for max mag (when there's no detrimental effect on picture quality, like in midprice and cheaper scopes).

Are you carrying a separate spotting scope, if not you definitely want something in the 20-30x top mag to be able to assess the beasts at 400m (or now it has already been extended to 450m).

Rudolph scope!!! you're f**king kidding, does it have a red nose, or red dot?
Neither.
Check them out here: Riflescopes

Good quality glass. Well made. Accurate. Good price. What’s more to like.
It may surprise some on here, but you don’t need to spend into the thousands to get a good scope.
My most expensive is a delta which was c£800 and the two Rudolph’s were <£400 as was my Nikon. Cheapest scope I have is a nikko 4-16x50 which was c£60.

All work very well and enable me to shoot target out to 600m with good accuracy and to hunt with great efficiency.

I carry a spotting scope, yes. And I assume higher max magnification comes at a price (weight, cost of the scope, bulkiness, something else)

If you have the money I'd buy (and have bought) a March 3-24 FFP with the FML reticle. It works at low magnification, and past about 7-8x you can see and use the mil scale. I've used S&B, Nightforce , Leupold et al, and March is the best I've found for a hand (not vehicle) carried rifle for mid to long range.

I've spent a fortune on scopes for long range deer shooting over the years, and so far I've not found anything that has the set of features the March offers. The Bushnells are good, and their hydrophilic coating is superb.

That said, my 260 at the moment has a Athlon 2-12 x 44, and I'm really impressed with it. Spot on tracking, a very good reticle and useable illumination - not too bright at the low end and daylight bright at the top.

Another one for the Minox 3-15-15 I’ve got two one on a 308,one on a 222 do everything I ask for. Good for woodland shooting or range work not two heavy.

The best group that I have ever shot, 7 shots inside an inch square patch at 200 yards with Norma factory .308 ammo, was with a 3-9 x 42 scope that cost £12 brand new.

I have been looking for something similar to your requirements for a long time. Bottom line is, I gave up trying. Initially I settled for a Swarovski X5i 3.5-18x50 which although excellent, was SFP and eventually I decided to change this.

The only real option I found was the Leupold Mark 5HD 3.6-18x44 with a TMR reticle. Off the top of my head, weight is around 750g. But for north of £3k here in the UK, it was a non-starter.

As mentioned, a Schmidt &Bender Ultra Short similar to that of @ejg may fit the bill. But personally I sacrificed a bit of weight to achieve the outcome for a bit less money.

On both my rifles, I have put IOR scopes and they are excellent. On one, I have the IOR Ghost 1-10x26 although this probably wouldn’t give you enough desired mag. I say desired because I can comfortably hit a 4 inch gong at 570 yards on x6 power so you may not need as much as you think. The Ghost weighs in at 820g and although it’s not your traditional hunting scope, it does the job extremely well.

The other rifle has the IOR Breaker 2-16x42. This is heavier than the Ghost (990g) but maybe more suited to what you are after. FFP useable MRAD reticle, MRAD exposed elevation (locking) and windage turrets. No concerns, at least for me with 90% light transmission. Very good quality optics and dependable tracking - definitely worth a look.

Both are around the £1800 mark here and well worth the money.

If you're willing to go up to 800g mark, Noblex (ex-Docter) NZ8 2.5-20x50 seems to have quite desirable features.

I don't know if there's availability problem or some show stopper, since Edi has brought the scope up in previous discussion but not in this one. Personally would prefer half-mil hash marks, the reticle seems to have 0.2 mil which IMHO is too much.
