Remington model 7 223??

My local has made me a bargain offer on a new old stock model7 in 223.
It has the adjustable xpro trigger and doubt it will match the cz unit resprung by me.
The deal includes a new mod and picky rail.

My questions is will a m700 picitinny rail fit the m7 @alberta boy ?
The rear bridge is smaller on the m7 but the holes are close to the edges and so I wondered if a m700 will fit etc.

I can't find any decent articles or videos on how they shoot. I can't see it printing bug hole groups but I don't want to see pie plate spreads either!
I am attracted to the lightweight and the plastic stock alas the barrel is not free floating!

Is there any model 7 owners on here that would like to share their experience please?

Had one in 308

Liked it

Sold it

Probably shouldn’t have

Mine had a one piece rail.

Some model 7 had two holes for bases on the rear of the receiver, earlier ones just a single hole. I think model 7 bases are specific and model 700 bases don’t fit (could be wrong, has been known, asked my missus!)

How did it group? Was it fussy?

This one has two holes on the rear bridge.

I had one in 7mm-‘08 years ago. It didn’t shoot very well to be honest but, in my experience, very lightweight rifles are generally a little disappointing in terms of grouping. They are unforgiving and you really have to be on top of your marksmanship principles.

I have an xPro trigger on my Rem 700. It’s a perfectly good trigger -nice and crisp. No point in me spending the money of a Timney.

Same rail just the 700 is longer. Is you can get a cheap 700 check where it stops the bolt lifting mark it and then cut the rear extra bit off.

Hi Sd;
I’ve owned several M7 rifles, both 3 hole and 4 hole.
All the ones I had (I soon need a different rifle) all had what some call a Pencil barrel.
Nice lightweight rifle that has an action 1/2” shorter than a M700.
Ideal for a foxing/ deer rifle but, those skinny barrels heat up AQAAYD if you start shooting strings.
Sorry can’t help with pic rail questions.
Ken.

I didn’t rate the synthetic stocks that were standard on some M7 rifles.
I think the ones I owned all had a pressure point at the front of the barrel channel.
Against advice I removed those and found I could shoot more shots in a string before the shots started printing vertically.
Ken.
Ps. Only recently given an American walnut M7 stock away. 😱

That's good to know Ken.
Could it group around an inch?

My best one was a 17 Fireball (Bought new) that shot 3 into 3/4” at 100yards with either factory or home loaded ammo.
2 x .243 ones I couldn’t get better than 1 1/4” for 3 shots.
I know people say 3 shots tells you nothing but it lets me know enough for what I want.
I know my groups will never go smaller by increasing the number of shots, so why bother?
Ken.
Ps. This is from yesterday at range.
Thought I’d reduce the visible footprint of the toe warmer by stapling it to the back of some cardboard with a hole cut out. Didn’t go to plan though as the thermal sight was able to create an image of the full toe warmer through the card.
So effectively shooting at a 3” x 2” bulls eye.

Fold or cut your toe warmer in half for a smaller bullseye 😉
