I don't like the fact I have to load before I can put the safety on .. do I just need to grow a pair or is this in anybody elses opinion just a bad idea (I know they are not the only people top use such a safety).

i was never happy about the situation you describe, so when changing rifles I went with one that could be loaded with the safety on (sako).
You don't have load before engaging the safety with my Remys. The only thing you can't do is put the safety on after firing. Once you open the bolt you can engage the safety before loading another round though.
