Royal Fail . . . .

They've switched track n trace off using coronavirus as the all excuse. Paid for a new valve next day guarantee, you guessed it arrived 2 days after the old 1 on the car went pop !
4 days for next day with no tracking record worth every penny NOT 😡

I sent some legal docs to Northumberland 2 weeks before Xmas. 1st class signed for and it took 6 days to be delivered. My Xmas card from Northumberland to me took 3 days 2nd class!!!

However had to send some more paperwork so this time 1st class tracked. Posted 3pm Yate and delivered next day at 2pm, so 23 hrs!

No explaining RM.

Two cards posted to west cost USA posted on the same day 2 days before latest recommended date arrived 10 days apart in USA. One in time for Xmas the other post Xmas. I am still awaiting a receprical card from USA.

D

It's appalling. I purchased a rifle online on the 28th, sent the RFD my FAC (at their stipulation) the following day so they could amend it and return it back to me prior to shipping the rifle. Now I'm in the position of the rifle being in transit, and having no idea where my FAC actually is. So I could potentially find myself in the position of having to pay the receiving RFD storage fees while I await a replacement FAC from Police Scotland, along with having to pay them a fee to replace it
You'll probably find the fac in with the rifle.

You'd think so, wouldn't you?

There is a good chance that your letter is still in the Post Office where you posted it, did you get a receipt for it at the Post Office?, it is usually scanned by the Postie who picks it up from the PO, then all the way up the chain until delivery, I had the same problem a few years ago, and I asked the sender to go back to the PO, and lo and behold the assistant there had put it in a drawer for safe keeping and forgot about it.
I would recommend using UPS for next day delivery, they are quite cheap, and they will pick up the item from your home.

No, the RFD has said they'll return it directly to me. Mind you, that's not entirely a bad idea to have it sent with the rifle.

@Fadcode I didn't actually get a receipt as I thought (perhaps stupidly naïvely  ) that actually handing a letter to a Post Office employee on Post Office premises with the correct postage already affixed would be sufficient to ensure it actually entered the system. That'll teach me, huh?

Horror stories from most postal services these days. I have to say that mostly, for high value items, I just plan a road trip. Obviously costs more, but at least there's a guarantee that you'll get what you've paid for. Make a day of it, or even an overnight stop and see what else is of interest to visit along the way, RFDs you've always wanted to see, that motorbike showroom you want to visit, shopping centre for the missus or whatever else. After all, it's a hobby we expect to pay a bit for (for most of us) so plan and enjoy! Better than sitting in an armchair waiting for the postman day after day.

But of course with lockdown, even that option is a no no now. Hey ho.

Sent the Grandkids Christmas presents yesterday as not able to see them over Christmas and hopes of Jan sometime gone. £25 tracked and signed for 24 hour delivery for a 8.5kg box sent and collected by Parcelfarce while I was at village Post Office 14:17 yesterday. Arrived today 14:45

Must admit was staggered

Sent my FAC Royal Mail Special Delivery next day, from my local Post Office in South London, to the Met Police Firearms Team in Fulham (South London) and it took 3 days...
I did complained and after a few weeks i received a £6.70 cheque...

@Woodsmoke , would not fret too much.

If Royal Mail really have lost your FAC then just ask your licensing branch for a new one with the rifle details entered onto it as they will have a digital record of the transfer, just a matter of printing a new one.

well i posted mine second class on 22/12 for a variation, emailed the FEL team they replied it was received on 24/12 and it will be returned later this week

The service is indeed dreadful, legal papers to our solicitor, reccorded etc., 3 weeks ago, still missing. My daughter's Christmas present sent early Dec, recorded again, box delivered, no present. Royal mail as useful as Royal males.

Royal Mail track and trace just doesn’t work at all.
Nothing happens and when it’s delivered it all mysteriously fills itself in .
Rubbish is not a fit word for it !
I couldn’t track my certificate on Royal Mail track and trace so I tried Post office track and trace and found all the information there.

You can try 17track.net as well, that was how I found out that a parcel from USA was sitting in my local RM sorting office, with import duty to pay. RM had been sat with the parcel for 4 days without sending any notification, and hadn't even printed out the notification card when I went in to pay and collect.

Because of the track and trace info you are getting, and the fact you didn't get a receipt, its more than probable that your letter did not enter the system as RMSD, and has gone in the normal post bag, (normally RMSD are kept apart from normal Mail, so they can be expedited) because of the way the Bank Holidays fall, and Covid causing some delay anyway, with weekends etc, this could have caused the delay, although I thought it would have been found in the normal mail as a RMSD, but as it seems that you have put on the correct postage I assume you did this online and also printed out the special delivery label also. RMSD are usually kept seperate from the normal Mail, and dont go through the normal sorting Office route, RMSD will usually indicate an Item of value, and may well have been purloined on its route through the sorting system,
I myself sent a RMSD this afternoon, and I can retrieve the info on Track-and-Trace, telling me what time I handed it in at the PO, etc. fingers crossed yours turns up OK.
