In the past I have bought RWS bullets for reloading from Frankonia in Germany. Most are listed on their website and it was a simple matter to click and order and a few days later they would arrive. Have tried in 2021 though.

However they are still expensive. RUAG uk have never really bothered to import any RWS components.

As far as non lead go, there are plenty of other good options available in the UK. I really do like the Fox bullet as it just plain works and seems to work well on all deer. And they make a target / practice version - only difference is that it doesn’t have the hole down the middle and its cheaper than the hunting version and shoots to the same point of aim.

Yew tree’s bullets look really good and reports are good as well. But haven’t tried them.

I do have a stock of RWS HIT ammo. RUAG were having a clearout of stock a few years ago - about 6 months before the proposals to go non lead came through, so managed to get hold of 180 7x65r rounds for not silly money. More for the cases than anything else. I will reload them with the Fox 130 or 150 when the time comes.

I thought it might be useful to say that sadly Frankonia no longer is a viable option. I have been wanting to try RWS eco green bullets for some time and when I saw the mention of Frankonia here, I gave them a try. I placed the order all fine but today got an email saying I would need to pay 180 Euros for air freight, 50 Euros for an export license that would require an end user agreement to be returned by post and I would have to collect the bullets in person from the airport. It was all a bit more than was worthwhile.

Arms 24 that I have used before simply refused my order this time. Alpin hunting that I have used before exchanged emails with me to confirm they would supply bullets to the UK, took my money then refunded it a few days later with no comment or answer to emails.

It looks like buying from Germany post brexit in anything but a huge quantity is not going to be worthwhile.

All this makes me wonder if there is not someone out there who would take it on. Could RUAG not just take prepayment purchases from those who do not mind waiting and then bring them in along with the next consignment from RWS? Anyone know who to approach? In the end any firearms user in the UK will be used to the idea he has to wait for what he wants, so I can't see why pre-payment would not work. I can appreciate why ordering stock might be risky for an importer but there is no risk for the vendor in pre-payment.

I’ve tried 6.5x55 Evo Green on deer which was accurate on a chest shot and neck shot but the meat damage in the chest shot of a mature Fallow Buck was appalling and ruined most of the entry side forequarter back to the haunch. The RWS HIT .30-06 caused much less meat damage on a wild boar. So I prefer monolithic bullets for meat preservation and have opted for Sako Powerhead 2 in my 6.5x55. This worked well on a young Fallow buck. The Sako Powerhead Blade seems to be the next generation but only available in UK in .308 .
