Sako 85s 243

I’ve got an 85s I had a 6mm creedmoor barrel fitted to.

There will be many a naysayer complaining about the bedding system and antiquated dovetail mount. I’ve had no issues with stock to action movement.

If it’s a synthetic stock the soft touch coating can degrade and become sticky. There are limited aftermarket options although you can remove the coating with methods detailed in posts on this site.

However the metal double stack mag can be top loaded, they utilise a mechanical ejector so you can choose how far the brass flings or doesn’t. Multiple rail options that fit on the dovetails. 60 degree bolt throw. Toolless firing pin removal. Bolt can be removed with the safety in. Bolt locked closed when safety on.

Secondhand accuracy really can’t be guessed. Out the box they have great barrels with a very acceptable level of accuracy.

However I also like the Tikka T3 for the simplicity and availability of aftermarket parts.

Thanks
Car
Amazing rifles , My friend has just bought one. Shoots hole in hole with 75 v max . The 90 might be a better option if you want to shoot heavier bullets or copper

Hope this helps

Of course I'm biased. I have four 85's. All of them function perfectly, no issues at all. Their fit is spot on for me but sometimes I use a cheek-riser when shooting prone at the range. On top of this they are aesthetically pleasing as well.

Here's a pic of the mob together with an AI and a Finnfire II. At the time the pic was taken the .308 Hunter was waiting for a new scope.

Sako 85 stainless/synthetic in .243 was my 1st ever rifle, never had any issues with it, only ever shot Federal Power-shok 100gr factory ammo which was pretty accurate. After handling both Sako and Tikka, the Sako just felt much better to me with smoother bolt etc, so ended up buying a second in a different caliber. Lovely rifle IMO

Anyone got an upgraded stock for their 85? I’m looking for one n can’t seem to find in uk
I have a GRS Varmint stock for mine, definite improvement, especially with the set trigger, I thought there was a fault with mine, but if you apply any kind of side pressure on the trigger when it's set it fails to go off, having tried quite a few others they all do it, so you just have to make sure you use only the tip of your finger on the trigger, the GRS stock has a palm swell which puts my hand in the correct place plus it's adjustable.

What zero range do people zero 243 at ?
depends on use intended. the majority zero every CF at 100 yards but this is not the best , its just because there are a lot of 100 yard facilities. For fox and deer 200 or a bit more is better , then play with it because ammo used and bore to scope centre , ammo used etc are all different 243 rounds run from 58 grain to a bit over 100 grains
If you can keep the bullet in a 4" imaginary tunnel its all good for fox and deer going a little high or a little low in the aim helps refine that

I have zerod it before fine but swapped scopes so need dialing in again I’ve heard an inch high at 100yds is good for 50-200 is this correct
