Sako 90 vs Tikka T3x

Previously the comparisons between the Sako 85 and Tikka T3x noted that a lot of people preferred the Tikka ...

The new Sako 90 has been described by some as a cross between the 2 rifles ... has anyone compared the new Sako 90 with the Tikka and got a good comparison or list of the actual differences?

thanks

Well let’s hope the new offerings from sako have have better choice of barrel lengths rather than the 20” hearty fartie fire sticks that most shops stock.

Handled the new Sako 90 at Scone.

Very light compared to the 85. I'd say the mag of the new 90 is around 1/2 the weight of what the 85's magazine was.

Trigger was nice and seems like a good system for adjusting pull weight without having to take the rifle apart.

A lot of money for a turn bolt though... £3k+?! 🫰 :scared::cuckoo:

No doubt Beretta Group have also pushed the price up on the Tikka T3x.

Of the many models of Sako in recent years (A7, S20, Sako 90, Sako 100), none have sold as well as the Tikkas, and for good reason.

£1890 for the Hunter version but ye still a lot of money.

£1255 for the Tikka hunter.

👍
And my local shop

£1255 for the Tikka hunter.
I remember buying a brand new one of these for £725 in 2012 😭

The Bank of England inflation calculator says the direct inflation adjusted equivalent today should be £922, so they have bumped up the price by an eye watering amount!

Beretta’s got to eat.

What’s the recoil lug arrangement on the 90
I believe the same as the 85.

I’ve seen it said often that they’re more or less stuck with this because the obvious solution is to go to what they have on the T3, and they won’t do that because… it would then be a T3 (seeing as they already use the same barrels).

Should have gone for an integral recoil lug and some sort of switch barrel system. But that's the selling point of the super secret Sako 100 (Blaser knock-off  )

Bit of a thread hijack but…

Have any Sako 90 owners on here experienced rust in the barrel or other parts of the gun? A friend had one and is fastidious about cleaning and storage of his rifles. He’d barely owned it weeks and well under 20 shots before seeing rust in the barrel. Went back to the shop (they were very good) and after the joys of going through a variation to obtain another new Sako 90 he bore scoped it before any shots were fired and found rust spots along length of the barrel. Anyone else experiencing this or is he just extremely unlucky?

Do you think it might have anything to do with damp storage at the RFD?

I was seriously underwhelmed with my mate’s S20. Heavy, plasticky and was (fixed with an aftermarket thing he bought on eBay!) not feeding right occasionally.

My p!££ would be boiling if I’d spent £2k+ on it.

That said, he loves it.

Money can’t buy taste.

One of the 90s on sakos stand at BSS this year was rusty, take that as you will but being Thier show demo I'd hope for better before splashing 3k

Not at the shop it was bought from as another friend had a rifle stored there for a good few months whilst awaiting a variation and that was absolutely fine when bore scoped. In addition the second rifle barely touched the shop’s storage as he was mad keen to have a rifle back.
