Sauer 100 bolt - can jeweling process be done?

Hi, I’m looking to have the bolt on my Sauer 100 .308 jewelled , was wondering if this process can be done even when the bolt has the cuts out of it for the action. I’m new to the whole rifle world so any advice would be welcoming when coming to modifying and tips

cheers

I can't see any reason why it can't be done.
Jewelling/ engine turning is purely a decorative process and has no real benefits other than possibly retaining miniscule amounts of oil, or so we have been told on previously. The Sauer 100 is a plane jane utilitarian rifle like my M18, wouldn't it be a bit like polishing a turd? :stir:

However if it rocks your boat go for it. It won't shoot any better but that bit of the rifle will be shinier. :)

Yeah but if you walked along and saw on the floor a glittery sparkly turd, you’d stop and look. It’s still a turd, but in this case it’ll be his turd.

To be clear I have no idea about this this rifle, I suspect his ‘turd’ is better than some of my heaps of shite 😁

I have an S100 and an M18 yet my gun cabinet still contains less 'turd' than most of what is spouted on here.

Get it jewelled if that takes your fancy, just to **** the snobs off😂
The funny thing is I only bought that rifle as I didn’t need anything special for the job it had. It shoots well and as I didn’t see the point in spending £8k on a rifle which might get knocked about, my other rifle which has the jeweling on the bolt Which I liked and wondered if it could be done to the Sauer 100 classic just to give it a personal look.

But now I’ll just give up using the turd 🥴 and go buy another premium rifle so I can fit in with the people who probably get into dept trying to impress people they don’t like 🤣

There's sod all wrong with shooting a turd, I've just bought a M18. I call it my tupperware rifle. Does everything my more expensive rifles do and I'm not afraid to take it out in the rain.

It will remove metal and spoil fit. My friend ruined a shotgun getting the internal action jeweled

Crikey mate whoever did that must have taken it to the absolute extreme. Jewelling is normally only microns deep and while visible isn't discernable to touch.

Well I said the gunsmith was at fault but he denied it !

In a similar vein I remember a guy pouring a tin of Brasso (mild abrasive) into the action of a brand new Winchester 101 and worked it open and closed for ten minutes back in the 80s to loosen it up. The other guys on the shooting ground as was I were horrified.

Difference between a top end custom rifle and a factory rifle is mostly down to the amount of polishing / stoning that goes onto the bolt, raceways etc. And is also why old Brno's etc are often very nice and smooth - time has knocked off all the machining burrs.

Here's the process:

I have a Remington 700 SPS. This a cheap rifle and you could clearly see and feel the grittiness of the action. Not helped by the sandblasted and matt blued finish inside the action and on the bolt. A couple of evenings work with emery cloth has made a huge difference to the feel of the action, and it now feels like a more top end rifle action.

Easy to do easy to make a jig , The hard bit was finding good rods in the UK when I done one of mine . I'v still got the no frills jig some place.

The deer love the twinkle of a jeweled bolt. ~Muir

(I haven't jeweled a bolt in 30 years)

Cant say I am a fan of jeweled anything on a gun, please have fun if you like that kinda thing. One of my most favored turd's is a Ruger All Weather Stainless Zytel stock (aka the boat paddle). Ugly is as ugly does. The Turd does very well indeed.
