Sauer 100 Classic XT

I use the 101 classic XT and love it. Took a bit of time though as mine was quite fussy with the factory ammo that was available to me, but after reloading for it, it has come into it's own. Nice comfortable stock on it too. Only down side is you cannot re barrel when shot out but that's a minor detail for me as mine is used for deer stalking only with a day here and there checking zero or new loads. A good solid, accurate no nonsense rifle from Sauer and I would easily have a second.

Thanks very much for info Bryan, looks like I will just have to go and look at one. All the reviews I have read look very positive but I never believe any reviews from the sporting press. To likely to have been slipped a backhander.

Cheers,
John.

Bit of a trek - but we have one on test with a view to utilising as a course rifle alongside the 101's. Both models with be at the Deer Stalking Fair with us.

I've done a few posts on Instagram on it thus far.

1. Stock profile near identical to 101 XT, but length of pull about 1" shorter - ideal as much easier to lengthen than shorten a synth stock.
2. Stock same look, but harder feel material - some prefer, others dont. Front stud in 'right place' for a change.
3. Niggles just for me - the 101s are threaded m14x1, the 100 m15x1. Bit more meat to things - all good - but very irritating on the stock front as RFD! Main stock screw nut on 101 is 9mm - bit weird, but once you have a 9mm socket its fine. Identical format on 100 - and they fit a 10mm nut!!!!! Really only affects people taking various models apart and of no consequence to a normal owner.
4. Slightly different bedding interface - front is fine and it all works well - but the rear element has a series of washers covered in a sticky gum to hold together. Works just fine, but frankly disappointingly inelegant design for Sauer.
5. Safety - back where most people expect it. Three position - all good. BUT safety travel is huge. Should have been half of what it is. Ultimately no biggie, but just didnt need to be like that. Until you get used to it you will try to flip the safety forward, then do a double take and move it some more.
6. Triggers on 101 have without exception been brilliant. Slightly different design on the 100 - but of a grand total of three tried they are all very good indeed.
7. RWS/ Geco ammo grouping through 2 x243 and 1x308 has been - wragged hole, 1/2" and 5/8" for out of the box, lets see how it goes 5 shot group.
8. Same 5 rnd double stack mag as per 101 - love it. Love it lots. Flush fit, 5 rd on board, feeds flawlessly, still not worn out original one after several thousands of rounds, can top off through action if need be. Once used you'll never relish the T3 mag aggro again.
9. Same as 101 - Rem 700 format tapping on action - takes Rem700 bases.
10. Havent weighed it or memorised the specs, but lighter than 101 - comfortably so. Better half can hold/ carry it all day long.
11. Never believe a printed word on reviews - or video media - these days. Wise words!

I've tried and tried, but still not managing to lose much sleep over ability or otherwise to rebarrel every two months because I mistakenly think I'm using a GPMG in SF mode... :D

Hope that helps.

That is a superb and honest appraisal now keen. Interesting point on the bedding interface but what you cannot see from the outside as long as it is efficient does it really matter!
Could you tell me what the bolt is like any play as you pull the stock back?
Thank you very much,

John.

We are Sauer Supported - but they are pretty good at accepting we're going to speak as we find.

Bolt - its three lugged as opposed to the 101 six lug set up - really three lugs with a gap. I actually had to go back to the rifle as I dont focus much on the bolt 'play' - so long as it doesnt affect cycling etc. Action is quite smooth - but not a 202 par. There is play at full back, but not enough to allow mislaignment/ binding as you drive the bolt forward.
