Sauer 100 or Tikka t3x lite for stalking (6.5 creedmoor) ?

I'd take an M12 over a Tikka for stalking but probably not a Sauer 100. Nothing really wrong with them and for an entry level model the stocks are probably better than the rubbishy Tikka plastic ones plus they have a 3 position safety and benefit from quite a nice action and decent barrel too. Tikka actions, barrels and triggers are very good indeed for the price point. They're almost universally very accurate and dependable rifles. Even after a good number of years looking at alternatives, I still can't see past a Tikka at this end of the market. Yes, you'll benefit from a better stock which means you'll need to budget more (unless you buy one of the fancy laminate GRS stocked jobbies) but it's probably worth it. Aftermarket is awash with stuff for Tikkas too.

I’ve just checked both my Tikka’s.

The Tac A1 is 3 way safety, but the CTR sadly is only only a 2 way.

Sorry for my misinformation there guys o_O

Interesting,

I’ve had 2 TAC A1’ and they don’t have a 3 position safety from the factory. I know this also because I purchased a new TAC A1 trigger for my stalking rifle - same as all the other T3X triggers regarding the safety. 🤷‍♂️

Anyway in answer to the OP’ thread - tikka for me. All the reasons others have already mentioned. Great rifle from the box with plenty of ability to improve/alter if you so desire in the future.

Well, I have used the Sauer 100 (or was it the 101? I can't fully remember right now), in a synthetic stock only on the range, as part of the Italian stalkers exam with a 6x scope in 223. It had a French style set trigger. So no extended Field usage but i have shot it .
I really liked it, it had good ergonomics, it felt quite nice (I'm not a Big synthetics man normally) and most people shot it well, i think.
That the Forrest/park Rangers of Merano use it, should also speak to it's favor, as it looked like they don't skimp on arms spending.
Their Common ranger issue were blaser billings!
I Only shot it with the French style set trigger, of which I'm big fan, so i don't know how crisp the normal trigger is, but with the set trigger it was a peach and such a feature might well come in handy if you want to shoot gongs at Longish ranges.

ive only handled the Tika at the gunshop. It had a VERY nice standard trigger, but ordering one with a set trigger optionwas not easy as I remember.
I seem to recall i liked the feel of the synthetic stock less than the Sauers.
Maybe the Tikka is a bit lighter.
As i remember it i liked operating the Bolt on the Sauer more.

But I don't think you'll go wrong with either tbh but I think likings for fit, feel and trigger pull are quite personal, and if you can I'd recommend you physically holding, shouldering, operating the Bolt and safety and dry firing both in a shop.
if you have a Friend Who owns one, of course trying It at the range would be Even Better.👍
