Schmidt Bender A4 or A7 reticle choice.

Hi all
I have a 30-06 Mauser M12 Expert that currently wears an Aimpoint 9000L (2MOA) in Warne rings, I am thinking of dropping the Aimpoint onto my Tikka T3 Battue Lite in 30-06 and buying a fixed power Schmidt Bender 6x42 Klassik for the Mauser. I have always used Leupold scopes with a duplex reticles or a couple of long range scopes with the classic Mil-dot reticle. I would like to know the opinions of anyone using a S&B 6x42 with an A4 reticle verses an A7 for general medium game hunting. I am not interested on variables etc.. as I have other rifles with these on it, just reticle difference opinions. All shots will be under 400m and most are under 200m.
This photo was with the first Aimpoint which is a 9000SC, I replaced it with a 9000L as it was too short so the 9000SC now happily lives on my Brno 22.

I have A4 on both on my 6x42 scopes. One on my .223, and t'other on my .308. I actually prefer the A4 to the A7 as I feel the smaller crosshairs concentrate your focus better, and lets you acquire your target slightly faster. Ideal for my needs as both rifles are primarily for woodland stalking.

That's a lovely rifle, as an aside :thumb:

One of the reasons I sold my 8x56 S n B was the A7 reticle, too thick for woodland as W,s stated .
Much prefer the much thinner 1 on My Vx 1 that replaced it.

I had a Schmidt scope (1.5-6×42) with an A4 reticle. It was ok, but I preferred the A7 that was in another S+B (6x42) I still have. So when I replaced the 1.5-6 for another schmidt but 3-12, I made sure it had an A7 ret. Now all 3 of my scopes have A7 reticles (the third is FD7).

For me, the A4 with the thicker posts extending close to the crosshair obscured a bit too much of the sight picture for comfort. I'd only consider one for hunting in dense woodland where you're likely to need to take a sudden shot freehand; otherwise A7 is best.

A7 for me. Can get more situational awareness of what else is around what I'm pointing at.

A4 was just too tight for my liking. I will admit it was handy to get a quick bead on target with and drew the eye to the centre
