Schmidt & Bender - changing reticles

I’ve just bought a rifle with a Schmidt & Bender 4-16 x 50 Klassic ‘Long Range’ scope fitted. Only problem is I don’t like the reticle, it’s an A8 Varmint reticle. It’s very fine and pale, which is great if you are a distinguished gentleman like @Stalker1962, but not so great for my fading eyesight. Does anyone know if S & B change reticles, and roughly what it would cost?
Failing that, can anyone suggest what price I should advertise it for please?

I remember someone having a reticle change on a PM2 a few years back, £500 was the figure IIRC.

Check the S&B website for contact details, Email S&B and they’ll provide you with a quote. Else, you could try and swap scopes with another SD member.

They'll will/did do a change of reticle, I asked the same question a good while back. From memory it was around £200, but we could be talking 10yrs ago and I ended up just buying another scope.

I contacted them about a turret change this week. Prices have increased significantly in the last few years, this job used to be ~£150, they now quote £300+100 postage. I expect it’ll be cheaper for OP to buy or swap to another scope

To change a reticle in a scope pretty much requires the scope to be completely taken down and then reassembled with new seals etc. The only scopes that had easy change of reticles were the Pecars, but they went out of production years ago.

4 or 5 years ago it was very spendy , I can only imagine the answer you will get will have you selling the scope for something more suited to your eye

It would be a lot easier and hassle free to sell it and buy one that suits you better

They’ll almost certainly do it, but at an eye watering cost. Personally, I’d sell it or trade it in - possibly on SD. As the Americans say…the juice isn’t worth the squeeze.

Certainly won’t be worth the cost and also the wait to get it back through customs.
If you’ve just bought it, advertise it for the same price you just bought it for

Pre-Brexit it was c€300 for a simple S&B reticle change.

Not quite the same thing but I enquired about adding illumination to a reticle two weeks ago, and was quoted €1100!
Juice definitely not worth the squeeze on that one!

Good thing about Schmidt is that they sell well at a good price second hand. I have only been in the production facility of one scope manufacturer. Changing reticle can be very tedious as well as dragging in a lot of dirt into a clean room an all the logistics involved.... only because the customer bought the wrong scope. I recently looked through an old 4-16 with that varmint reticle and it is a very specialized scope.

I had one with an ultra-fine single diameter reticle that could only be determined in good light. Great for load testing but in reality not much else!
