Schultz & Larsen .308 Accuracy with Lead and Non Lead Ammunition

Do you think it would/should be wildly different ?
Are you talking the same weight of bullet, the same shape (HPBT for example) and roughly the same MV ?
Bullet length and twist rate may force you to go for a lighter bullet (than lead) which would typically offer you a faster exit speed (MV) which in turn offers a flatter trajectory.
Over what distance are you considering ?

The standard .308 factory barrel is 21in 1:10 twist.
@100m which factory lead hunting bullet has been most accurate?
Same question for non lead?

Not wishing to appear obtuse but not sure why you’re asking the question.
Virtually every rifle made nowadays shoots one or sub MOA out of the box with most factory ammo - you just need to find the right ammunition. I no longer use lead.
S&L are no exception and mine regularly shoots sub MOA and near enough cloverleafs if I concentrate on a range ☺️
My go-to .308 lead-free bullets are either Fox 130gr (very good indeed) or RWS Evogreen 139gr which being slightly heavier actually tightens the group to bullets touching.
Both excellent on fallow in my experience.

t not sure why you’re asking the question.
.
It’s not an uncommon question on here - “what’s the best factory ammunition in x rifle?”

I’d hazard a guess the OP is looking for a starting point from other owners of this rifle so he doesn’t have to buy lots of boxes of different factory ammo in order to find the one that suits the rifle best. It soon gets expensive.

I've seen 2x factory rifles 1x serial number apart and 1 liked a particular factory round and the other had it all other a bit of paper .
Pick a round that suits your shooting and quarry and ypu can get hold of ! then try it ....
No getting round it

If its any help, I have had fantastic results using fox classic hunter bullets in my 375H&H and my 6.5x55. By fantastic results I mean they have been very accurate, I am still to shoot an animal with them. I know when I try lead free in my 06 I will be trying fox bullets first.

I get that and appreciate the clarification. My experience on a new rifle/calibre has generally ended up taking me down the path of asking the gun shop for help, but remaining vigilant on only selecting the best bullet weight for the desired quarry before purchasing. I’ve had 6.5C 93gr American rounds cloverleaf without trying but wouldn’t use them on fallow but settled instead for Sako 120gr - still incredibly accurate but critically much more suited to fallow.
This is a never-ending topic and we’ll all have different experiences, but 308rws, for my penneth-worth I’d like to think for .308 you’d start with one box of a European cartridge in the non lead 130-140gr region and you’ll probably not be disappointed. S&L is a great rifle too! Best.

I used this very same rifle in .308 Win extensively with almost all factory copper offerings available in the UK for 4 years and I’ve never had any issue with any single of them in terms of accuracy. It’s shame that I sold mine as I never get along with the cheap plastic stock. In future I will probably buy a new one in a good wooden stock.
