scope price.

Aye, the Burris fulfield is not a bad scope at all and around £200. There are a lot of articles floating around the world wide web regarding optics and the general concensus as far as I can see is that there is a huge difference between a £40 scope and a £200 scope, but between a £200 scope and a £1000 scope there isn't as much of an advantage that require the difference in the price tag.

Bushell scopes are also all ok and they are not to bad - a lot of fakes on fleabay though.

Old Nikko Stirling
solid construction very good optics
Bushnell are OK too
Leupold a bit more pricer but you can get some mint VX1 and VX2 low variable (3-9x40/50) for under £200 if you are patient

if you are buying cheap stick to fixed mag
asking for trouble buying complex AND cheap

Now sit back and watch the scope-bling junkies start howling about just how fabulous their £1000+ glittery toys are.

It ocurred to me that the difference between a scope snob and a fashionista in a shoe store was...precisely nothing. 'Oh my, this Swarovski/these Manolo Blahniks are *simply* ravishing...' 'I wouldn't be seen *dead* without my Zeiss/Stuart Weitzmans, darling'... 'oh well, you*could* use Leupold/John Lewis, but I find the build quality just *so* different...' ;)

Bang on and there are some cheap items out there but i shoot a sauer because i wanted it for posing it has culled alot but no more than my cheap Tikka. I have a swaro scope vari and it is bright and has help cull a lot but no more than my cheap meopta. Would i swap them back NO CHANCE LOL.

I have had Simmons White tail classic very good for the money. I now have 2 bushnells one each on my 243 and my 30-06 both have functioned admirably over the 3-4 years I have had them. They have seen service from Scotland to Africa never a problem both hold zero and even when Scotland,s weather was doing its worst they still performed. I have on my 270 a Barska 3-9 x 50 this is my second Barska and for less than £100 it too has come through a very wet and tough 3 days in Scotlands worst without any issues. i personally think that unless you are a proffesional stalker it isnt worth spending thousands on scopes save the cash for your stalking. You could do worst than look at the Barska range.
Tusker.

As long as it is water proof, gas-filled, one-piece, with multi-coated optics and has a good warranty on it you'll find something perfectly good between £200 and 300. If you buy it from a USA online-retailer you'll pay approx 30% less than from a UK based retailer -, even after taking into consideration the P&P and Duty. It will also arrive within 3-4 days - something few UK retailers will manage. Yes, we do live in 'rip-off Britain'.

And don't be seduced by the marketing men who want to make you think that you can't be successful and aren't a serious stalker unless you spent £1,500 on a scope!
A funny example: I took a friend out last Saturday for a Stalk and let him shoot with my rifle, a cheap-as-chips Howa .243W and a budged Sightron S11 6x42 fixed scope. (His own rifle is an expensive German one -Beautiful wood, engravings, exotic heavy caliber, you name it- , his scope is a variable Austrian something starting with S for £1,500+) - He dropped a roe doe and later, over a pint, he said: Amazing, the bullet hit exactly where I put the cross hairs!!'. Yes, amazing.

That quote doesn't do much for your credibility pal, giving a rap to an old nikko and dissing the whole NF and Leupold range.

For the original poster, buy a good second hand Leupold 3 series scope either a VX 3 or earlier V III model. Good scopes, life time transferable warranty, free repairs and services from the manufacturer.

Totally agree vari x iii is superb shot 100,s of roe with it foxes reds sika and can't see why would need anything more expensive.purchased it years ago in the states so a wee bit cheaper. Swar scopes are good and Zeiss but most time snobbery does come into it .

Well I an entitled to my opinion. I find the Jr scope to be like looking down a furred up pipe.the long eye relief on leupolds makes them to uncomfortable for some shooters and the out dated eye focus system ( on the older scope) is so bad they have changed it.

Again IMO I'd have my cheap old Tesco over any of them.

Just my opinion mind.;)

If anyone wants to pitch their cheap scope against my Leica then I would be more than happy to compete with them.

I am not a scope snob, but I do the difference between a good scope and a average scope.

"he said: Amazing, the bullet hit exactly where I put the cross hairs!!'" What were the light conditions at the time? I could take a loo roll tube and a couple of bits of thread and make a scope that I could hit the target with in perfect conditions. That is not going to help me in the slightest when the light conditions are poor. That is when a good scope comes into their own.

I can remember 4 shots taken with my scope this year that if they had been £200 jobs would not have been possible. Those 4 shots have covered the cost of the scope, and it is only in year 1 of use.

Gosh - I'd love to find a dealer who paid £250+ per carcasse... ;)
