Scoring?

There seems to be a lot of folk on here going over to Africa but never really any mention of scoring the heads,(unlike over in the states).

Does the UK have a Roland and ward judge(s)? Or SCI? A quick google suggests CIC might do some scoring as well?

Appreciate it’s a memory of a trip at the end of the day. It’s just interesting that we measure a lot of UK stuff but seem to do very little with plains game. Possibly because a lot comes back already mounted?

Cheers!

I can see by the number of replies it’s as popular as I thought 😂

I’d have thought someone might know rowland and ward judges? I believe it started in the UK. Just doesn’t seem much of a thing any more

I think because most Brits go to enjoy the experience. Many Americans go for the trophies

Completely get that. Once in a while someone must get an exceptional something and want to know how it measures though? Certainly most people on here tend to measure their UK species.

But I agree with the sentiment of leave the tape measure at home idea

SCI would be my obvious thought for anything trophy-esc, also an additional thing all your antelope and sorts are pretty much judged off horn length what anyone can do with about 95% accuracy.

Pretty much everywhere besides America, and Canada most commonly hunted big-game Is in fact relatively small animals with not the most impressive trophies, (roe deer, muntjac, cwd, chamois, tahr etc) Plenty of people here hunting reds, fallow, sika etc but in reality Its still a few compared to us hunters.

but when Americas "primary" species Is whitetail, then blacktail, then mule deer, the several types of elk? various moose, caribou, maryland jap sika, texas exotics, farmed wt/elk etc? I can kind of understand why they chase big trophies compared too us.

There deer are just inherently MUCH bigger than what most people here shoot. (europe, uk, nz etc)

Thanks! Do you know of any SCI judges in the UK? SCI or Roland and ward don’t seem to have a list of judges like CIC do . I’ll pop them an email but thought I’d ask around on here to see if it was a non starter first

Your PH there should be able to give you unofficial Rowland Ward measurements pretty quickly. And should be able to arrange official ones after the drying period if you’re having the trophies shipped after taxidermy I would imagine.
