Scottish Independence

There are a lot of comments on this thread from many who have absolutely NO SAY in this matter what so ever, (no vote; only opinion).

I do have a vote and it will be cast and handed in, in person to ensure the postal vote gets there, it will have a large tick in the YES box.

I will continue to vote SNP and also vote for independence as I truely believe this is right for Scotland.

I do not agree with all SNP policies and in particular disagree with there firearm policies and gay marriage but I truelly believe Scotland has done much better since they came in power from free prescriptions, free university places, removal of bridge tolls, 3rd bridge on the fourth, dualing of the A9 and the running of the country. We have the wealth in oil and dont let anyone kid you that it is running out, oil is my bussiness and I know what is produced now as well as what reserves we have in store. What we have also found west of shetland is like 1977 north sea oil starting all over again (Huge reserves), all the yards in Scotland are booming with work and we could not place an order for a jacket to be built as there is an 8 year wait, we had to place an order in south korea due to this. whisky export is huge as is tourism,
This land is Scotland can be made to bloom again is the Scots have the courage to stand up and say yes.

An independent Scotland does not have to seperate from the UK, Scotland can work hand in hand AS EQUALS with the rest of the UK but is seems the rest of the UK cannot see this

TO SEE THE COUNTRIES OF ENGLAND AND SCOTLAND STAND TOGETHER AS EQUALS

THERE IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PARTNERSHIP AND SUBORDINATION

THE FIRST ENCOURAGES MUTUAL RESPECT; THE SECOND BREEDS RESENTMENT.

again I will vote YES, and this will be the only chance Scotland will ever get.

Hi Everbody
I see on the news that the vote for Scottish Independence takes place in a years time.
I was wondering what implications if any this would have on stalking rights etc?

Anyway, it appears as normal that the first question asked has been ignored and stalking is no longer featuring in the debate so......

I have had a word with Eck and apparently the intention is to divide all leases held by Englishmen equally among Scots stalkers. Sorted then. :D

(I have English friends. And they will be welcome up any time to shoot on my 250,000acres of stalking ground.)

Apparently Scotland would inherit £153 BILLION of debt upon leaving UK, and apparently that's where the oil money would go...........

Again I believe this is still a free country, live where you wish and vote how you like .

As for the shanty towns I think it is time someone in Westminster had a look at England's culture or what is left of it ,the multi cultural society has wrecked England, the people are wakening up to this and like you have mentioned Nigel farge is on the up and up ,ever wonder why .

For those that don't want independence it is a simple process turn up on the day and vote, x in the box you wish.

I entirely agree with you. England has been destroyed by a malevolent socialist establishment, mass immigration and the EU and the malicious ideology that brought us these things. Scotland has got away with it while it has been in the Union because the richer picking economically and politically have been in larger, more heavily populated England. I absolutely gurantee that will change rapidly after independence.
I know very well why Nigel Farage is on the march. I'm a member of his party and one of the people pushing him.

Scotland is the only country on this planet to have discovered oil and got poorer and where would England be without Londons square mile wasting it all??

I agree with that as well. In fact BRITISH oil (Scotland is a member of the UK not a servile colony - we have large oil reserves in Dorset but its BRITISH oil, not Dorset oil) hasn't really made Britain any richer. Much of the revenue has been used paying for the damage and the debts caused by post-war socialism. Much of Glasgow, for example, has been run as a socialist fiefdom 80 years. The result is shameful enclaves of some of the most impoverished and sickly humanity in the western world which has proved wildly expensive both in wasted human potential and raw cash. It was paying for just such madness and state-subsidised Edwardian heavy industry and the debts they amassed that saw NS oil run into the sand, not establishing the square mile which was built and runs largely on foreign money.
Those debts have been run up again, of course, by Gordon Brown, who, it must be pointed out, like the labour hierachy that sustained him in power, is Scottish.
Salmond is cast in precisely the same mold. You will be headed back in the same old direction, without either NS oil or the Square mile to pay the bill when it all collapses.

Perhaps it's time for Scotland to remember just how the Union came about. The idiots in charge wihtt heir grand schemes bankrupt the country ad came cap in hand. The difference is this time the Scots who were in charge have managed to bankrupt the whole Union.
?As for the freebies in Scotland well once the open purse policy from Westminster is gone where do you think the funding for your freebies will be coming from?

I do believe is was that arch criminal Wilson who sold off the oil rights once again to bolster his own ends. The silly sod who found him in the drink should have done the world a favour and held the bugger under.

It is an emotive subject with Scots divided both along political and social lines, I remember when I used to frequently stalk and fish in Scotland where once the drink flowed the old prejudices would come to light with the English blamed for all of Scotlands woes, I also remember the rabid anti English graffiti on buildings and in Glen Coe but I cant remember English pounds being refused even by staunch republicans. I also remember having a interesting conversation in the Highlands over both Culloden and the brutal English treatment of the Clans (mostly carried out by lowland Scots and Germans) and the land clearances carried out by their own Clan Chiefs where the locals seemed to have forgotten history and placed the English as the blame for everything. Like most people I agree the Scots should have the vote and if they vote for independence good luck to them though it would also be interesting to see how many English people would also like to vote to give it to them as most English people I speak to couldn't care less if they stay or leave.
By the way I still go to Orkney and Shetland where they seem not to want to share their resources with the mainland so will they get a vote as well?

I wonder what will be on TV the night before the referendum?
"They'll never... take... our FREEEEEEEEEEDOOOOOOOM!"

That or a Rab C. Nesbitt marathon.

Brian, 250,000 acres. Is Alex taking some ground off you? Seems a big reduction, mate.

Rubbish. Angola, Nigeria, Venezuala, DRC, Chad, Sudan... I could go on.

What do they have in common? Oh yes - (mis)rule by a corrupt elite who gained and retain power after the overthrow of a colonial regime or an establishment descended from it, and who manage to convince much of thier deluded population that things are better off under them than under thier oppressive predecessors.

The die-hard Scottish nationalists are fighting a cartoon: the Scots are currently just as 'free' as anyone in the UK. They are no more or less exploited, neglected or lied to than people in Yorkshire, the Midlands, Cornwall etc etc.

The issue of sovreignty is nonsense: what they gain by independence from Westminster one day will HAVE to be surrendered to Brussels the following morning.

The only thing that peope should really be considering is whether or not the actual quality of governance will improve. Evidence for the dismal incompetence, petty venality and laziness of Scottish politicians and administrators indicates not.

One thing no one seems to consider (and I'd be curious to hear answers to): what happens to those many of us who hold mortgages with British banks in the event of Independence? It seems unlikely that we will continue to be paid at the same scale as British counterparts (the Scottish government simply won't be able to afford to do this). Meanwhile, our house prices seem likely to decline. As far as I can tell, there is a substantial risk that we will be left servicing mortgages that consume an increasing proportion of our wages while running into negative equity. I have actually written to my MSP (none other than Kenny himself) to ask what their policies on cross-border debt are going to be. so far no answer... As with everything else, my guess is they have absolutely no idea what they're going to do.

Terry C you are correct the pound has never been refused but crumbs off the table not good is it, Scotland should in my opinion be independant and run its own affairs. Then we will have no one to blame at all and all the english will need to deal with there own problems instead of dealing with scotlands poverty.
Scotland's Oil ,Scotland's Whisky, Scotland Water, Scotland renewable power, Can sustain the small amount of people that live here with ease.
Mungo is correct they have had their oil reserves stolen by America also lol.

Excellant post that man.

The SNP are doing a marvellous job with their smoke and mirrors all in the name of an Independant Scotland (Or Freedom as some are saying) But to what end? Ok you want out of the Union, I can understand that but you'll be going out the frying pan in to the Furnace! Please help yourself, disassociate yourself from England and lift your skirt for Brussels.

I hope the good people of Scotland do not vote yes, I hope they see the light before it's too late.

As a service voter I am getting my application in so I can vote a loud No. It is pure fantasy based on pipe dreams and cartoon politics.

Their defence policy is written by a failed officer who got to Lt Col and had probably been promoted too far. It is unaffordable and from my perspective the Scottish regiments a part of the British army. Anyone wanting to grow a Scottish defence force (think our current border police) will do so from scratch - imagine the choice for a Scottish soldier:

A - remain in the well funded British Army deploying on operations testing yourself with excellent equipment

or

B - leave and join an underfunded (worst paid) defence force with no prospect of operations let alone overseas travel. Gretna will seem like an exciting posting!

soap box now vacant....

Who needs overseas travel when the English are always at the gates? Gretna will be right on the front line, in the teeth of the perfidious invaders.

Jinga ,you mention overseas travel mmmmm to where Germany at the moment big draw down cyprus again draw down . Afghanistan mmmm lot to offer has HM forces .

I remember the days Hong Kong, Oman, Kenya , Cyprus ,Germany, Canada, Gibraltar, Norway,USA,Falklands,Italy and a host of other countries .

A little to much surmising of what if and what will take place ,Scotland isn't something that has just been born it hasbeen here for a while now, the politicians that we vote in to carry out our requirements can only be guided by what the people ask for .

On many an occasion on this site we have seen lobby your MP for this and that correct way to do things as is got to their surgeries and talk to them ask the questions ,seems as thing drop in the count down, the people of other counties have far more interest in Scotland than those that actually live here ,why .

simply having been born and raised in scotland but living in england I think the ideas of a independant scotland as dreamt up by the self serving snp would be a complete disaster for all conserned on both sides of the border
