Scraping firearm

Can I legally scrap a old 22rf myself that is on my ticket ie cut it into small bits with my disc cutter and take it to a police station?
Absolutely you can.

Not entirely sure that:-

You can find a Police Station.
That they will take it off your hands.
They will know what to do with it.

Cut it up, take photos, email that to your FLD, and offer them the opportunity of collecting/viewing the scrap.

Dispose of after a suitable period of time.

You might still have a few minutes to correct the thread title.
I would say no:-:)

Definitions 24.2

No obstacle should be placed in the way of a person who wants to surrender firearms or ammunition to the police. Surrender might suggest illegal possession although this may not always be the case. Persons anxious to dispose of firearms and ammunition should be allowed to hand them in at a police station. Disposal might suggest unwanted/unusable firearms held on certificate although it is lawful to dispose of these through a registered firearms dealer (RFD) and owners should be encouraged to take this course to save police resources and realise the value of their items, particularly if they are of an historic or heritage nature. Firearms should either be disposed of through the police, or to a RFD. Following the establishment of the National Ballistics Intelligence Service (NaBIS), police should ensure that recovered firearms and other ballistic items are assessed against the NaBIS submission criteria and submitted to one of the NaBIS hubs in London, Manchester, Birmingham, or Glasgow.

Thanks very much for that but I prefer stalker 1962s answer seems easier ;)

Last time i did this i rang the police station in Wilmslow to let them know i was handing one in to be disposed of, got an appointment time duly turned up and handed over the shotgun, officer used a red stamp with their station address and then wrote disposed of in red on it as well.. Nice and easy process, nice officer who dealt with it too, very positive experience.

Any Derbyshire Police station WITH AN OPEN ENQUIRY OFFICE will take a firearm for destruction. All the staff are well trained in what to do. There is no charge for this service.

I also know the Countryman Of Derby will accept firearms for destruction. There is a charge for this service because they have to dispose of the firearms which takes time.

So cutting it up, to hand in isn’t entirely necessary. But can give peace of mind.

Guy at the pistol ban filmed himself turning his pistols and presses into swarf then handed in the bags as firearms and listed items under the FCS with there value pre destruction and got paid out with the film evidence provided as set out in there forms of proof .

Just take it to the Police and they can do the rest
Don't forget to get a receipt so that you can then ask for a replacement slot on a 1-4-1 basis.

If you are thinking of surrendering the gun in kit form (after the disc cutter) remember that the serial number on the gun should still be identifiable. I can't find it written anywhere in the guidance document but I have read in recent times that the police need to be able to clearly identify the firearm following various home destructions in the past causing them great problems.

Yes. But you could also just surrender the thing intact and complete. Speak with your firearms licensing department and they'll advise. No point in getting out the angle grinder if it isn't needed for you to be rid of the thing.

I had a carrier bag of "odds and sods" 12g cartridges that had got wet with an unnoticed water leak and rusted. Local FLD very happily collected it for disposal when passing a week or so after I asked them about it.

I was having a good morning until I saw this picture. This literally makes my chest hurt to see such a waste of firearms. Thanks for that:mad:.

Why go to all that effort? Your FEO will take it off your hands or you can hand it in at any police station (if you can find one that hasn’t been shut down). This is free.
An RFD will generally charge an admin fee if you hand it in to them.

I have agreed the cutting up of a Firearm barrel with an FEO . in the past . Normally its done by an RFD but they only cut them into sections of barrel anyhow and I cut along the bore NO WAY TO RE-ASSEMBLE A BARREL AFTER THAT ! An RFD should charge a decent rate , the scrap value of gun barrels is literally pennies and just a single slitting disc costs them far more
