seating depth 2

Just an update . So unsure about what was happening. So back to basics. Total strip down Total clean Total re assemble . Yew Tree 130 gr tipped N540 at 43.5gr at 2.88 thou 1/2 min and same with ELD-X 150gr at N540 at 41.5 at 2.88. So what was loose ,not bedded, no idea, but what a relief. Amazing how much better you feel.lol

it seems the correct SAMI /loading manual length gets better results.
Me too. I have never fiddled around with seating depth even on rifles which could benefit from it. Do they shoot 0.1 moa? No, but neither can I. Can they shoot 0.25 moa, think so but again I am not sure I can do that either. Its not what I define as fun so I don't.

Hunting rifles in 308 and 270 always seem to shoot ~0.5 moa off a sensible rest with the normal powders. So no point pushing for any more. Interestingly the biggest difference seems to be powder selection and that is well known. The last 270 seemed to be capable of 0.25moa once I went to N140 but not interested in that so I only ever shot one group.

Start with recommended COAL if that fits in the mag, get the combustion right ie look for a low ES and see where that gets you. Daft to fiddle with seating depth if ES is high.

That's good, so you were not able to reproduce the wayward group....something about safety in numbers, or at least a larger statistical sample then!

No Alan , what ever was my cock up, it was ironed out! both groups were good and easily shot. Both groups where from clean barrels, first round 1" high next three touching on both at 200yd
