I am genuinely curious, what is the strip of white stuff that appears to go around the barrel and fore-end of your rifle?

The white thing referred to is a plastic cable tie.
Last year i tried to fit one of the cheaper model bipods to my rifle.
needless to say it would not fit and threaded the swivel.
one day whilst out stalking the sling fell of and i managed to catch the rifle before it hit the ground.
since that day i have placed the cable tie to prevent it falling if it happened again.
simple but effective.

Well that just goes to show you as I would have thought that would totally muck up your accuracy. I suppose once it is on then the pressure on the barrel remains constant...

jamross,

not at all the tie is completely free from the actual barrel, it only sits on the gun in case it comes of its thread.
its fed through the swivel and is loose round my barrel.
if the thread released the swivel the tie would take the strain at that point only.
its like a safety belt if you know what i mean.
