Sellier & Bellot Blue Energy

The average distance run by the 135 chest shot deer was 18 meters. Average range was 120m. My experience with lead bullets in 6.5mm and 7mm used for a mixture of lung, heart and shoulder shots is that 18m is not an unreasonable average especially when the larger species are thrown into the mix along with a mixture of awareness and multiple shots on a group. A lung shot fallow pricket yesterday ran 30m when shot with a 308win at 90m by a guy I was out with using lead BT's. It was aware of us. Nothing too unusual.

Shot 2 young roe bucks yesterday with the s&b one dropped on the spot the othe did 5 yds. Both shots was 2 inch up at the back of the shoulder small entrance with a 2 inch exit

Just an update on this thread after shooting my first fallow buck with the 120 grain Blue Energy in 6.5

Shot was broadside, entry was pretty much invisible, exit appeared to be 15mm max, shot was approximately 100m and the deer dropped on the spot, raised its head once and then nothing further. The shot went just above the heart destroying the cluster of blood vessels and broke the offside leg on the exit. The chest cavity was full of blood but otherwise the visible entry/exit holes were very neat.

This ammo groups just under 25mm at 100m so seems like a pretty decent and accurate round for £39 per box and keeps the game dealer happy who is asking for shot with lead free. Time will tell with more deer how it performs with any less than perfect shots though but so far I'm more than happy.

I bought some in .308 as I thought it would be simpler than working up a load, they didn’t even make 1700 ft-lb from a 26” barrel, nearer 1500!

Which 6.5 and have you chronoed them?

Different to my .308 lead free experience the 140 gr creedmoor soft points were doing 2850 FPS from a 26” barrel

2750fps from my 20 inch creed....
The earlier 110 308 evergy blue didn't make the velocity, they have increased the speed since then... according to the packaging and website....

What are people paying atm as mine were £54 a box which I thought a bit steep tbh....

£39 a box for 6.5 Creedmoor which I thought was pretty decent for a non lead round especially in that cartridge.

Seen them at Dauntsey guns for £43..... could do with another price price from so.ewhere else before I tell my local rfd to remove his mask and change his surname from Turpin to summat else lol

Bought a couple of boxes of 150 gr blue exergy thingies for my 7x57. Not a bad pattern for a 12 bore. Would take the one box back but it would cost more in fuel. Absolute rubbish in my rifle, have to stick to 165gr GECO, 1" group.

Well I will reserve judgment until I’ve tried them. Got some 130GR Norma and some Full metal jacket 140gr Sellor Bellot to at least get it on the paper at £21 for 20 they are a bargin

I’m always surprised by those that claim “with my rifle/ammunition/shot placement all the deer die on the spot”
I get head and neck shot deer never move but particularly with larger deer all sorts of things can happen with the best chest shot and ammunition. I’m more proud of my carcass recovery rate more than my poleaxing deer on the spot ability. Everything varies so much. I just found a combination of calibre and bullet that I have confidence in and stick to it….. mind you it takes time to get confident and you need to shoot a few deer to not get spooked by the odd wierd reaction…

last few iv shot with .270 fox classic have not even had time to finish the grass they had in the mouth they dropped on the spot . S&B 131 gr 6.5creed also dropped no runners yet!
