Unfortunately the costs to the estates of going to the hill to shoot a mature stag is the same as shooting a knobber stag. The cost of a, man, vehicle , ATV and ghillie if your lucky ,makes coming off the hill with one stag a day a marginal exercise. In the past i've offered clients the opportunity to take a poorer young animal or more , gratis after a mature cull animal has been grassed , as chance /time/ circumstance allowed. Taking the cull from across the age classes is vital as in each age cohort there will be strong and poorer animals, i would no-more shoot a young spiker with velvet above his ears than i would a young royal. Too many people leave a" young" 6 pointer to improve, they can, but in reality it's better to be well rid, as it is likely older than you think and in anycase if it was growing well it would have probably been an eight or better. Far better to remove this class of animal than a really strong spiker. imo
