Just booked a 2 week holiday for next year and was wondering if anybody could recommend a decent pay and play range in this area?

We go over there regularly, or used to I should say. We always stay around Kissimmee.
In Kissimmee right on the 192 at Old Town is a place called American Machine Gun where you can shoot all sorts including as the name suggests "machine guns". Right in the middle of the touristy area.
There are a couple further North up near Orlando which are supposed to be very good. About half an hour away.
If you are going over on holiday, join a website called "the dibb" lots of great info on there

Can you do that in Florida then? I went to Virginia two years ago and tried to find shooting clubs where my gf could fire a pistol ( she’s always wanted to, probably sideways- don’t ask) but every range i spoke to said you have to be accompanied by a us citizen ie using their firearms was ok but the club would not let you use theirs. It seemed odd but that was their rules, for safety or homeland security.
a bit odd as I think the greater risk is from their own citizens but, their country , their rules.

I know you cant in New York - only US citizens can go shooting anywhere inside the 5 boroughs. I think there is a small .22 range somewhere in Brooklyn you can go to, but frankly why travel all the way to the US just to shoot something you can shoot here pretty easily?

On the one time I visited Florida (which I didn’t enjoy for a number of reasons) I spent a day at a place called Tanabrak Shooting Range

Booked and shot numerous pistols after getting the necessary licence at Walmart

I had tried NY and VA and assumed that it was the same everywhere. If I ever go back will check again. Good to know.

Yes, you can shoot in Florida as a non-US citizen.

Vinelake rd there are two orlando gun clubs I used to belong to it as i stayed in a place each year off Tradition Parkway and it was a hope and jump to it lol . Ockridge :https://oakridgegunrange.com/ is worth a look, so is the Gun Tyre and pawn range again if its still there bit of a dive mind you lol , another was off boggy creak road there used to be a good clay shooting ranch ? worth a day if its still going .

Oakridge gun range as Paul O. said you only need a driving licence ( the only downside is its indoors ) and its not far from the bass Pro shop . When I went I handed over my paper driving licence the guy in the shop said what's that " my driving licence I said !! OK what pistol and how much ammo do you want. 👍 👍 👍

I was working in Knoxville, TN a couple of years ago. Went with a colleague to a place near the apartment called "Shoot Point Blank", a large shop and range complex. I believe there are a dozen or so spread across the eastern and central US. Spoke to the guy behind the counter and showed our passports, he looked up the status of UK citizens and said "sure no problem, pick a handgun". Chose a SIG 226 Legion in 9mm, 50 rounds each, bought some targets and hired some ear defenders. "Walk through that door and take the second left". Found a superb range with electronic target retrieval and sections for long and short arms. Told the RCO/overseer that I was used to firearms but had never used a handgun. He gave us a fantastic briefing and we were off.

Blokes from where I work regularly go to the US and the first thing many do is find the local range.

In the mid 80s I went to sheffield to visit family and my cousin, 13 like me, took me to a gun shop near west bar nick. Where, for a few pounds, we were loaned a colt python .357 and a .22 semi auto ( roger I think) and let fly at the indoor range upstairs after a safety briefing.

It doesn’t seem that long ago but to a teenager now would be like stories I hear about leaning your fowling piece against the bar when entering a pub.

But they did teach us how to hold the revolver with the chamber out and show it clear/ pass it to someone butt first etc. So some good fundamentals for callow youths.

That is EXACTLY how the conversation went when me and a mate went in 2009!
We had a .357 4inch S&W and a 10mm Glock.
When we asked for the revolver he said "do you fellas want the big-boy ammunition or the pussy specials my wife shoots in hers?" 🤣

For the record, your ability to shoot at a range as a non-citizen of USA is state dependent. As a general rule, the conservative (red) states are usually quite accessible for shooting at ranges, hunting, even purchasing ammo. The liberal (blue) states such as NY, IL, MA, CA, and now VA are usually quite restrictive, often even for their own citizens.
