Shotgun Bore Cleaning

Interesting to what lengths folk go to clean their barrels, I clean mine after ever session, simply oiling a bronze brush with Youngs 303 and having a bit of a scrub, the chamber ends always seem to get the most deposits, then a dirty jag to get the most gunk out followed by a clean jag or two, then a looksee and if there is anything left, just repeat, lastly a wool mop sprayed with WD40 before storing in a silicone sock, clean any oil deposits out of barrels before the next use, simples. Obviously all metal to metal surfaces are then cleaned and regreased.
Last of all and while I am sure most of us know this, judging by some of the wood I see, a lot don't...store with the barrels down, it stops any oil contaminating the walnut.

Best advice to the OP is change your brand of cartridges and, if it is the case...I don't know...stop trying to shoot 20 bore shot charge weights in a 28 bore gun? Stick with standard traditional 28 bore shot charge weights and less leading will occur.

Thanks for all the advice everyone. Really surprised how toughly baked on this fouling is. I've been shooting for years with various shotguns and never seen it this bad. Just used the kettle trick and that seems to have helped, and also a spiral brush rather than a bristled one. Still not all off but I'm bored of it for the moment. Below is a picture of the cartridges I was using (won't be buying those again). A couple of you have said that you always wipe out excess oil before using the gun again, why is that? Thanks all.

There is a chance you could "ring the barrels" in older guns with left over oil as it has to go somewhere...
I've used fibre wad for 20 years and never had a problem use hull eley fiocchi in a 325

Hi Alex

As a few others have suggested, put your cleaning rod with a bronze brush in a drill with some bore cleaner brings it up spotless.👍

I can never get my 28 bore barrels clean and I’ve tried almost everything even after 20 plus wipes with patches still coming out with dirt on them I shoot cork wads and that’s the only ones which seem to be the cleanest of all sometimes the only way to remove the fouling is by a cordless drill with a bore bush on it a member on here pointed out a true fact to me and that was the barrels aren’t chromed and what your seeing is steel which means every time I’m cleaning them steel is being removed but I’m going to try the hot water like the photos above any help is always appreciated
