Shotgun licensing

Hi everyone, I’m due a renewal for my shotgun license soon but may not be able to get the doctors for back in time before the cut off. However my guns are not actually on my ticket but a family members where they are kept at there house. Do you think it will be much of a problem if the form is sent in a bit late?

It's only a problem for you and your ticket, your guns are registered elsewhere. Why do you not have your guns on your ticket?

The thing is, if you don't renew in time, your certificate will lapse. So you won't be able to renew it, but will then have to apply for a grant. Which could well take longer and, of course be more expensive, but it won't be the end of the world seeing as the guns you use are on that family member's certificate. However, as above, the thing to do will be to communicate with your licencing dept. I believe quite often, if your application is in on time but the delay is with getting your doctor's form done, some forces give a bit of leeway there. So fear not and keep them informed. That's the key thing and see how it goes.

Evening,

The guns being on your ticket or not is irrelevant really. The issue you face is that if your renewal application is not in before expiry then you will have to apply for a grant, and depending on your local force, may take a significant amount of time to process.

I strongly advise you to speak to your local licensing unit directly to discuss and try your best to get the medical form sorted as soon as possible.

Good luck. 🤞🏻

Just as when I applied for my license I was still under 18 so they weren’t put on my ticket and a family members instead as it was just easier.

Okay thank you 👍

Is the issue with the surgery delaying everything, or you haven't got round to doing it?

If it's the former then the police may be able to help by taking the application and accepting the medical as soon as it turns up.

If the latter and you just didn't do it in time, then get to the surgery with the form today. They may not even look at it until they are back after Easter, but you can chase them.
Maybe go in on Tuesday with the form. Either way, don't delay, this is down to you, you need to hustle.

How long do you have until expiry?

If they're not on your ticket, they're not your guns, so thats one less worry, when you say late are we talking days? Normally the eight week before expiry is to avoid guns going into storage, you don't have that issue with not having any, technically but not realistically or practically for continuity you have until your ticket expires but the earlier you apply the better (I understand most areas suggest six months before expiry), but as I'm sure you're aware from posts on here, long waits are the norm now. While I sympathise with your position, the only person responsible for the application is you
