Should I go to the dark side?

The problem with trying a K95 is there aren't many about...especially not at most dealerships, so even getting to see, let alone fondle one isn't easy, much less trying one before buying.
It's a rifle I absolutely know will stay with me for the rest of my life and which I've now owned for fourteen years.

If I wanted a switch barrel look at the Mauser M03 or Schultz and Larsen. I might even spend the money on a left hand proper Mauser 98 action and then save up for the barrel and stock.

Haha you beat me to it! Definitely check out S&L if you're looking for a switch barrel rifle and prefer the more classic look. Blasers are excellent rifles from what I could see on the ones I've handled (never fired one though) and seem to be very well made, but are a bit more modern looking.

S&L are classic looking rifles with wooden stocks, cut rifled barrels and superb actions. Plus they are a bit cheaper than Blaser as well!

If you want to try them all out side by side give the lads at Ivythorn Sporting in Street, Somerset a call. They are a top notch RFD, no hard sell or BS and do stock Mauser, Blaser and S&L. Plus they have a range so you can try before you buy!

Not that I've been banging the drum much for Schultz and Larsen recently or anything...

Bol&*ks to that, and the Range Rover sport, you dont want to look like a tart, ideally get a 1947 303, preferably battered to hell, and turn up in a shagged out Mitsubishi 4x4 that burns more oil that petrol, if your motor makes it there everyone will feel sorry for you and buy you beer !

I have been tempted lately of throwing in the towel and going dark, under the premise that somehow my life would become easier with a Blaser: modularity, compactness, the same muscle memory for all calibres, ease of use, interchangeable scopes etc. You know the drill. A dark sider is also trying to convince me that this is the way things are going.


By buying a Blaser you are not going to the dark side, you have seen the light lol

In all fairness, even after giving you some lip..............I actually have a Sauer , you can change over barrels etc, although I just use the 308, and have used it as a target rifle at 900 at Bisley, and it shoots the arse off a Blaser ! and IMHO looks nicer (although it weighs more than my missus left arse cheek)

The R8 appears to be a great rifle

I've had a mk 4 303 and a BRNO 375 in the past (for work)

The other day I bought an R8 which caused some eyebrows to be raised at my local club

I then added a Z8i and took that to my local club range to mount, bore sight and start the zeroing process

The temperature of the reception at the club dropped rapidly below freezing !

Can't say what it is going to be like to shoot (yet) but it definitely creates a strange reaction

Was on a driven shoot in Germany last week, of the the 25 Hunters probably half of the guns were Blaser R93's or R8's. The rest were a mix of double rifles / drillings, more traditional bolt actions and a one left hand Browning Semi Auto.

Well I will be very happy if I am still alive and looking like a tramp in 2094 when the R94 comes out...probably won't be shooting much then though.

Thanks for all your suggestions....at the end of the day it probably makes sense and will probably get one next year, probably choosing .223 , 6.5-284 and .300 WSM.

Its just going to be hard feeling "Germanic" and a member of the "Pink Handbag" Club.
