Merkel L961 double rifle drilling.
9.3x74R X 9.3x74R x 20 gauge x 76mm.
Built on a VERY slender 28 gauge action, weighs only 3.2 kgs/7lb.
Regulated for 293 grain RWS Uni Classics and number 6 shot.
Beautiful open sights, and is now fitted with a Zeiss HT 1-4 x 24.

Here is another double used for deer hunting, winnie grand European in 9.3x74R, plus another of my double in the snow on a driven hunt.

That Merkel L961 is very unusual, and gorgeous. I like the idea of two rifle barrels and one shotgun barrel.
I have a combination gun on a very small frame, in 20 gauge / 7x57R, and it is just over 6 lbs, even with 27 inch barrels - delightful handling.

E=stag1933;982026]Same rifle, different habitat .
I had no mountain boots in those very early 1960s.
HWH.
Beautiful Merkel stag 1933, I love Merkels.
Do you still own it?[/QUOTE]

No. I sold it and spent the money fitting double-glazing everywhere here.
I have been only partially sighted for some years now and no longer shoot or drive a car.
It was being wasted sitting in the cabinet.
I had shot 7 species of Deer from Muntjac to Moose with it, Beaver in Sweden and a Chamois in the Austrian Alps, plus Wild Goats in Ireland and Scotland.

Regards, Hubert H.

Well at least you put it to great use while you had it.

Gee thats light for a drilling with 27" barrels.
My only regret with my Merkel Drilling is I wish I ordered a set of rifle drilling barrels in 9.3x74R, purley for buff only work.
But I may still send it back one day and order a set.

Mine is a combo gun, with just two barrels, not three, but that is still light. It feels like a 28-gauge Beretta shotgun.

Just out of interest, with an OU , which barrel do you shoot best, top or bottom?
When i had my 12/222 tikka i always felt the low barrel contributed to its accuracy

not fancy but light and handy 30-06 i started with a new gun stripped and reworked the lock work and polished spring plungers and holes they work in ,re stocked and made a wide v back sight i are going to make a ramp fore sight this winter

Nice. You can't help loving a DR.

I love that Merkel 8x60JRS. What sort of ammo do you have loaded up for it?

I shoot a WWI era Mauser in 8x60S, and really enjoy it. It is really shooting 196..200 grain loads well now, at 2,500 to 2,600 fps. I am trying to find accurate ones with 150 and 170-gr bullets.
