silencer explosion

As an engineer who previously specialised in aero components regularly subjected to high temperature changes, vibrations and flexing (turbine blades), this thread makes me cringe. Mostly as I suspect some fail to appreciate a moderator for what it is; essentially an expansion chamber for corrosive gases travelling at high speed.

I have some thoughts concerning resonance, namely harmonic resonance which may contribute to those failures proving less obvious. However the thread has already degenerated into a slanging match. Now there's a surprise.....

Lastly, please, please, please stop squirting WD40 into your moderators. Aye it'll inhibit corrosion if moisture is present but chemically you're creating problems.

i brought a new roedale segmented silencer to go on my .243 tikka and thought it was great due to it being so small , light and quiet. however , a chap i go lamping with had the same mod on his tikka .270 and after about 50 shots he said he fired a shot only to hear a loud bang and see half of his silencer flying down the feild. after this happend he sent it back and got another silencer of a differant make to replace it. we just put it down to it being a fualty mod but about a month later i shot a fox and also had half of my silencer go flying 50 yard down the feild. the silencers are segmented and came apart between segments . Anyway , i now have a new Jet-Z silencer and havnt experianced any problems with it. has anyone else had any trouble with roedale mods ??

had the very same problem same gun same mod same caliber havent had it long and havent put many shots down it but have had a few accuarcy problems but dident think much of it but when my mod went flying 60 yard down the field made me think the accuarcy problems could have been down to a faulty mod if it doesnt vent gases consistently or the bullet was to strick one of the baffels on the way out then it would throw it out
