Silly sod

You have my sympathy mate.
I broke my tib and fib playing rugby in 1958, man with a sponge came on and I told him my leg was broken…..he looked and shook his head, no it’s not broken, I protested that I’d heard it break but he convinced me a 14 year old he was right, so I stood up and tried to walk…the leg folded out sideways and I felt physically sick.
Off to hospital, plaster of Paris up to top of thigh. My leg looked curved when the plaster had set.
Go home and come back in 6 weeks they said.
6 weeks later they looked and said…this leg is bent, we might have to break it again, I’d didn’t fancy that as a friend had recently had his forearm re broken and he told me it hurts when they do it. No anaesthetic for these things in those days apparently.
The nurses and Docs. huddled together and whispered in the corner.
They decided to make a cut in the outside of the plaster from the front of my leg, round the side and finish at the back, then a nurse put her knee on the inside of my leg, got hold of my ankle area and pulled, this opened a gap on the out side, they then put a piece of cork in the gap and plastered over it. Come back in another 6 weeks they said.
6 weeks later they took the plaster off and my leg was nice and same shape (But opposite hand or leg) to the other one. So total 12 weeks with plaster to top of thigh. Prob. do things differently now.
Good result.
Ken.
Wow.. you have my respect... no snowflakes back then, get on with it!!!

I cant scream in text, but im no martyr take all pain killers you can get.
However, the worst was the manual reset of the bones for the temporay plaster.. that was seriously orrible despite the pain killer inhaler.

God this is horrendous brings back flash backs. Had a ski boot pulled off because the French are idiots and didn’t have cutting tools which was bad enough then they had to reset it again. I feel for you.

It does , doesn't it . After one spectacular crash during a Moto , multiple participants , I tried to pick up my bike , we always do for some strange reason . After levering my bike out of the pile of mangled motorcycles , I stood up and put weight on my left leg . It folded halfway between my knee and my ankle . I still remember the nauseating sensation of my knee hitting my foot . It still gives me the Willies when I think about it . I'd pulverised about three inches of my lower leg , it's actually half an inch shorter and , surprisingly , has given me back troubles ever since ............... but I still love going fast on motorcycles , especially stonking big two strokes . Your only 18 once , but I can be immature my entire life lol .

God that really does take me back, Aug 10th 1968, Triumph Thunderbird on a country lane, Ford Escort (new) reversed across the road leaving no where to go.....hit it in the side and wrote it off.

Read the above from ‘I stood up....’ finally voluntarily ‘lost’ the leg below the knee four years ago after a lifetime of pain.
That sickening feeling as the pulped ankle gave way.......anyway, went on to ride in competitive trials and bought a Harley when the mid-life hit me 😂😂
