Silva fox call

Has anyone brought or used the silva fox call (as seen on fieldsports tv). I can't get a squeak out of it spent most of the day trying. It could go down as worst piece of kit purchased if I can't make it work.

Ah, there's a section specifically for that too! 'Worst Kit' I think it is :-)

Another gimmick.. i bought an Aussie call for a tenner years ago and i Boak just putting it in my mouth.

:) fair play to the aussie who flogged this bit of kit!ive been blowing /sucking all day!dogs think im mad!wife knows im mad!if u hurry field sports got 44 left!! lol

no good if you have false teeth ,think they are a bit like the shepherds whistle and you have to place them on the roof of your mouth ......i have a plate so wont get a single note from one .....they looked hard work on tv !:D

All I can say guys is keep trying. If you place the call half way in to your mouth and push the middle of your tongue on to the back of the call with the tip of your tongue pointing down to touch the back of your teeth on your lower jaw. This now forms a seal in the lower part of the mouth allowing the air to be pushed through from the top of the call. I hope this makes sense and helps.

Once you have mastered the call it is well worth the effort. It really does work.

Roy.

i have been making these for ages now out of plastic so the tones change these do work very well i think you need to try not to blow too hard at first till you get the hang of it then you can get louder after a while its easy heres a link for the tenterfield which is the same thing really it might help, atb wayne ps i cant believe people charge for these i have been giving them away on pigeon watch they take about 3 mins to make http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WblmozbFwl4

You little beauty. I've cracked it after watching your link, almost weighing the little bugger in as scrap I've got loads of squeals and squeaks. It's actually very good and loud. Your also right about blowing softly.

What plastic do you make them from? I'm thinking a 2mm hole on the top and a 4mm on the bottom?

you can get good loud pitch from those cougar. i have found them a bit hit and miss. but that is fox shooting for you anyway.
the wam call i think sounds the most realistic of them all but is not very loud. so on windy nights can be hard to get a good noise out of them.

most callers work well in winter months when food is harder to come by. most foxes dont like to pass up what they think is a free meal when times are hard

hi deerman i have a massive sheet of 1.5 mm black plastic 8ftx4ft for a job at work and only used half for this job so i was given the rest and started making them from that. my holes are 2mm and 4.5 which seems to work well i make mine slightly longer than the ones selling at the moment its flexible so it changes the pitch very well if anyone wants pics i can post to get a really nice fold on the plastic i cut to size start the fold then i use gentle heat off the gas hob for a couple of seconds and fold put under the tap and it stays in position then drill holes ,atb wayne

I do agree with it being hit and miss some will just sit and look but I did bring one in from around 900yards one evening.

fixed it heres the caller alongside a dog whistle for size and a couple of wigeon whistles i make these also grab the foxes attention, atb wayne
