Snake bites

Just returned from pico de Europa Spain and on our last day in the accommodation my dog was bitten by a viper on her face, luckily I saw the viper attack her, 1 hour later her face was like a football. Luckily I had a vet appointment for worming(needed to return to the uk) when I got there the vet gave her anti venom injections she said she was lucky to have survived. So as you may know getting a vet in a emergency in Spain is not easy, so I recommend anyone taking their dog to rural Spain to take a anti venom treatment with them

Perhaps my ignorance, but I thought anti venom was snake specific, and had to be kept refrigerated, etc. is there a general one you can get from a vet?

This is a reminder to anyone who has working dogs .
And I am glad your dog is well
We used to stalk and shot an area around South Ayrshire. And a couple of times we had problems with adders nipping our WHP,s
To the point that my vet at the time gave me the anti venom to take with me .
Fortunately never had to use it . As u would expect.
Regards Willie
