'Snakes' knives

Well I had a problem today, I took this one to work with me thinking I would have some time at brake to start sanding the handle, thought before I start I will just rub the bit of corrosion off the blade, pressed it on the bench so I would not run my fingers up the cutting edge and this happened.

I had not even noticed the start of the fracture, you can normally see any after you take the forge blacking off as there is a black line left showing any cracks but not this time, glad I caught it at this stage.

You can see the fracture in the steel as the dull part, and the clean brake I caused with the extra bit of side pressure.

So if anyone has any suggestions on blade shape and would like a knife with that handle, and a 1 1/4" blade there will be one available :-|
I spend every day looking at single crystal castings so find that picture very interesting !!!!

Make it into a tiny unzipper for me, with the pepper jade handle ( so it matches my other 2 off ya)

At a reduced cost , lol lol

Seriously, PM me if interested

Hi Mr. Snake

Who made/supplied your leather logo stamp please?

I need to get new ones as mine are worn out but then they are made from some non metal material I can't ID.

Thanks

Hi, I had them made up by these people in china https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32697077216.html?spm=a2g0s.8937460.0.0.816c2e0eli8xId, you have to send them a black and white picture, tell them the size you require it, and they machine it out and send it to you. the snake emblem I put on all my work is done with 2 stamps. if I remember I will post a pic later, I have had quite a few done by them and never had a problem.

Yet more wonderfull work Mark. Just a thought from some-one who has one of your unzippers (which is a great piece of craftsmanship, as is the sheath), why don't you put the handle the other way up on the unzippers/tripe style knives? Surely makes more sense?

I have one of the heavier unzippers from Snake, I’m hoping with the handle as it is it will split sternums and save the knife edge. Just need a willing test subject now....

You have got it in one with that answer, I tend to use mine for opening the stomach cavity as you would expect, and then splitting the sternum when the animal is suspended, so having the knife as they are works for me, that is why they have a more substantial blade than some other un-zipper knives.
