Snaring Deer

So I'm having a scroll of Facebook earlier. My wife posts lots of pics and videos on it but I like it as it's basically a big bunch of forums to me.

Amongst the hunting posts, I follow a lot of bushcraft ones but one of the posts stopped me scrolling.

Bushcraft and Survival UK - here's a snare I use to catch Muntjac. One Muntjac caught in this can last me ages of good quality meat.

Now obviously I have no issue with the eating, but I mentioned he may want to check the deer act on the trapping front.

The reply I got back was that this was for survival and man made laws would not stop him living free.

A quick check of his previous video shows he's in a little wood with audible traffic, and has declined council housing to live in this wood instead.

I did point out it's not exactly "survival" then if it's by choice, and it's hardly survival when you are posting it all over your socials to build your bushcraft brand.

The guy clearly has issues that would ensure he never gets a firearms licence, and clearly has some issues he could do with some help on.

Anyway he was quick to block me so I can no longer see any of his content.

It used to happen years ago. I remember cycling to a farm where I used to go and shoot Fallow. The lane was very narrow and deep. About a mile before I got there I was nearly hit by a Fallow buck dancing about in the road. It's antlers were caught in a wire snare attached to a young tree adjacent to a deer run up the bank. I got by and raced to the farm for a gun. The farmer came back with me and shot it. His neighbour had been having deer damage to his swedes and set the snare. This would be late 50's when things were a lot different.

You can see he's edited the post to say it's theory, then done another post straight after, also saying theory.

That's definitely not what was said initially
Was there any photos?
If not, it probably is just "theory".
Most likely just some wannabe survival expert trying to big himself up online with a load of makebelieve. Doubt he's ever been cold, wet or hungry in his life, or ever killed anything.

He can’t even spell ‘muntjac’ either, so I doubt he’s that credible a source.

He obviously doesn't live what i call a primitive life when he can set up a website like that.

This was the actual post, with the first part added after my comments.

Someone else has obviously commented the same as me. It's clear he's out to trap and eat.

Pity you didn't screenshot some of it at the time. Mind you, a word with your local wildlife crime officer might well result in a visit that will make him wind his neck in a bit.

Notwithstanding the legalities of certain elements of this guy's 'endeavors' its very clear he's absorbed both the atmosphere and teachings of Thoreau's "By Walden Pond".

If he truly enjoys a better state of mind living in the woods rather than Council provided accommodation, I'd be inclined to let him crack-on for now. That said, I'd be more impressed if he didn't feel the need to post his exploits on the Internet!
