So . . . .

The question I have asked myself so many times over so many years it this, what would have happened if we had just sat at home protecting our borders, and building armed strength so to be ready to protect our country from invasion by any aggressor who tried invasion.
I also wonder what the map of Europe would look like now ?

Neil.

Well of course, you can't actually tell, but some of the consequences would have been in effect being under permanent siege, having no easy trading partners, without being thrown a lifeline by the US, losing slowly the ability to draw on the resources of empire. The US may well have come to terms with whoever won because "the business of America is Business", and in the end, this was all a long way away and didn't concern much of the US population directly, and the UK may have continued limping along in increasing isolation, or finally decided to toe the line with the US, occupied Europe, whoever would be willing to throw us a bone. Maybe. But certainly I don't think there was a genuine, strategically realistic option just to draw up the drawbridge. We are where we are geographically.

HUH?

You have lost me there. JTO makes clear that they came back to vote LEAVE. They put principle ahead of any jeopardy to their own ex-pat situation.

Just what we need. Another MSM diatribe to explain the "error" of this referendum.
I have kids/grandkids born in Munich so what would you do eh? up with he union flag. Hmmm!!!!!

Franklin Roosevelt is the one that spoke about there being nothing to fear but fear itself.

He also said...and it applies well the the wealthy Brexit supporting Rees-Mogg, Tim Martin of Weatherspoon and James Dyson this: “The test of our progress is not whether we add more to the abundance of those who have much; it is whether we provide enough for those who have too little.” and this "“We have always known that heedless self interest was bad morals, we now know that it is bad economics.” I cannot still help believing that whilst many, Forum Members here many, voted Leave for what they felt were honest reasons that there was a wealthy elite of Brexiteers who supported Leave as it massively financially benefited only themselves.

And of all those Free Trade deals that Liam Fox promised before the Referendum and yet of which none have been forthcoming with but just sixty days before Brexit Day “Repetition does not transform a lie into a truth.”

Not being in the Customs Union does not preclude travel into and out of Europe [Loads of Americans, Japanese, Canadians, Africans, etc prove that daily]. I have no doubt but that a petulant EU will make travel more difficult for a time, but international travel will not halt because of Brexit.

I think he also said: "There is nothing to fear, but 'fear', itself."
Teddy Roosevelt stated: "Nothing in the world is worth having or worth doing unless it means effort, pain, difficulty… I have never in my life envied a human being who led an easy life.
FDR, the later 1930-40S president made that other quote about fear.

True, but our expat"s residential status in our chosen land may change. Aka "getting all these poles/romanians/bulgarians etc out of the UK". Could equal to a tit for tat recoil effect.
Realpolitik.

Who says law abiding, working European nationals are getting kicked out of Great Britain after we leave the EU ?

Is that quoting an imagined far-right Brexiteer? Or is it an actual quote? If so, please supply verifiable attribution. I do not know of anyone seeking repatriation of Europeans who have re-located and made new homes in other countries of Europe.

The EU Commission today suggested that Brits could still travel within Europe, but not work, for 3 months. Having dependents with other nationalities might help.

The EU is all about redistribution of wealth AKA Socialism. It's just like the Social Services taking the house that you wanted your kids to have, and giving the money to the care home workers.

I have experienced far right attitudes aimed at my girls in a pub in Deal. "We don"t want any Germans in here said the pub server", they were only 16 at the time with me ordering a meal for us all. GOBSMACKED and ashamed I was.
OK I may be overly sensitive but just hearing the pub talk in Dover where my house is gives this attitude out almost every time I go into one.

Unfortunately I'm sure there would be establishments in Germany or France or Italy or................ where you would get the same said to a British national too..

No but it will slow down to a crawl and cost a fortune.

When I drive to Turkey I pass through France Belgaum Germany Austria, Hungary, Serbia, Greece and Turkey

At the moment all the EU countries are no more of a problem than the Dartford Bridge crossing. Then as I leave the EU theres suddenly a two hour delay at the border.

In the future I am guessing ill need 8 visas as well :(

Unlike the alternative which is whining and complaining that the Local Authority wants your Mother to sell her house to pay for her move into a care home because her son and daughter-in-law can't be bothered to neither visit to assist nor to pay for a helper to let her remain in that house until the end of her days. So they expect every bugger else to then pay for it when as a result she goes into a care home for it so that their inheritance is preserved at the expense of that area's Council Tax payers.

That doesent make a lot of sense with a right of centre party in power?

The most powerfull party in the EU parliament The EPP is centre right wing?

They have 14 seats

The Centre Left party, the "Party of European Socialists" has 8 seats, and the Liberals have 5 seats.

The Left wing aptly named "Party of the European Left" has no seat on the Commission and only one seat on the European Council (as apposed to the EPP's 9 seats)

In fact the only successful left wing party in the EU is the Green Party and even they dont have a seat on the Council
