Speedy 3rd party medical pro forma

Does anybody have any experience with a company that does a Proforma quicker than 28 days? My GP wants at least that for £75
Thanks all

None.

The 28 day lead is because that is the statutory time your GP has to send your records to the 3rd party.

In my very limited experience, the 3rd party generally will complete the medical within 48h once they receive the records, but it all waits on your GP.

I heard about a company called Med2Cert that can turn these around in a week, they were advertising at the Shooting Show.
Sorry I have no more information.

My GP left me high and dry on my proforma. They played the game, chased them up at reasonable intervals and stated they have 28 days to complete the form. On day 34 it transpired it has been done around about day 10 and sat in an out tray for the following 24 days… lead to me having to lodge guns as FEO couldn’t get round to home visit before my expiry date! I have to take some blame leaving my renew so late!

If your GP takes the same approach you are probably better off just asking them to do the pro forma rather than introducing another party?

In the midst of changing doctors as we’ve moved a few miles and they’ve said £50 and done within 14 days. result!
That's good news indeed. Of course this whole postcode lottery as regards GPs involvement and their fees remains a mess and BASC has argued for mandatory involvement of GPs in the firearms licensing process for a set fee. However, in recent events, the policing minister has even rejected proposals to make it mandatory for GPs to place a marker on the medical notes of certificate holders . That is despite 83 per cent of respondents supporting this proposal.

And is that not part of the reason why we're still required to get medicals at renewal even if it should have been done the first time? Because plod can't trust that your original GP actually did it...

Why not lobby to return to the previous system as the police don't seem to trust the new one they implemented

The one where we ticked a box to confirm "nothing since last application"
If I recall correctly, and please anyone correct me if I have got it wrong, due to a number of tragic incidents where certificate holders did not disclose relevant medical conditions at renewal that is when we stopped being trusted to self-declare despite it being an offence not to be knowingly truthful or some words to that effect. So I don't see use getting back to that system again.

However the police don't trust the current system, otherwise it wouldn't have to be done every renewal
