I missed this thread, unlike me, as I love a bit of ScatGov bashing.
No surprises, more reprehensible behaviour by our glorious leaders. The evidence stacks up daily, but there are still those of negligible IQ who'll vote for them or whatever incarnation the Indy movement morphs into.

Not disagreeing this was wrong and he should stand down but correcting the point that his kids used a Govt laptop (iPad actually). They didn't, they used it as a hotspot to provided data for their own devices.
If he had allowed them to use the secure iPad I would suggest it was a disciplinary offence.
He claims he didn't know the children had used his device as a hotspot but at some point must have given them access to the passcode, and so was complicit in the misuse of the data

A sweep of the ‘history’ of the computer‘s searches, etc would enable all such questions to be settled. The minister has refused to hand over government issued property for such an examination. Nothing to hide = nothing to fear, and would put to bed any speculation re same, thus helping to clear the matter up and reassure his subjects constituents of the truthfulness of his explanation thus far. Absence of cooperation only serves to cast further doubt on his story/explanation. The fact that he sat on the matter for the better part of a year, presumably hoping it would go away, does neither inspire confidence in his bona fides.

I don't believe for one moment his story about his sons watching the fitba, I think he was probably cracking one out to a bit of Frankie Vaughan, repeatedly.

Would it not have been a more ’cost effective’ (if hardly prudent) use of taxpayers money to fly the children to the match and back? It would have just as equally been wrong, but probably a lot less costly to the folks obliged to pay his expenses as claimed?


He’s become. ‘ a distraction’ to the workings of government…..

fun fact: Westminster parliamentary scrutiny body sits 8hrs per day, 5 days a week. Scot park equivalent body sits 10 hours a week, or should that be ‘weak’…

If they’re so disinterested in Morocco, why even take them there? Otoh, they could’ve joined in a game outside with the local kids, helping to foster good international relations between countries via their shared ’passion’ for the ba’. Guessing they’re being conditioned to vote SNP too. BBC Scotland used to devote 1/3 of their airtime on matters newsworthy all on the game, talk about bread and circuses…

If you can connect to a tech thing then you re most of the way there to ‘owning’ that thing. Once you have control of that platform you can then extend into other areas to which that device can connect. Basically as per Miki’s comment. The thing is this is wider than just abuse of connectivity by his children as he alleges. Hot spotting the ipad makes it available to others to connect to not just the kids for their misuse. There are bad people both criminals and state actors that wish us harm. The data volumes could be masking other accesses and uses by others. Only proper tech analysis of whats been going on will show just how bad the breach is.

Essentially lying about allowing unauthorised access thereby breaching any security and covering up the misuse after the fact should mean exit (hanging for preference).
He knew 11k was ott and was prepared to let us the public pay until caught and then found to be lying.
The mountain of issues this surfaces with security breaches, trust issues and incompetence is breath taking and yet unsurprising for snp.
How many other occurrences of this have slipped under the radar…how many other times have we been conned by these dishonest politicians and our governmental workings and data potentially exposed to people who mean us harm.

Apropos “government workings” - set aside any prejudice against the messenger, and marvel at the ‘workings‘ of our beauraucratic system: is it just me or is DC describing how FLS, NatureScot, etc operate? Ferryboats, anyone?
