Sprocker pup missing toes

My bitch has just had a littler of pups. One of them is missing the skin over his toes, part of the pad and his toe nails on his Black right foot.
I can only imagine that the bitch has damaged him when getting him out of his sack at birth. I have covered the foot in Terramycin spray. Anyone else experienced anything like this, if so how did the pup get on later down the road.
thanks

Surely you should have called the vet in?

Considering how many miles a spaniel will cover in a lifetime, and the foot injuries they can have. Id say the future doesn’t look good for this pup but without seeing it I might be wrong…..

I think you will be pleasantly surprised how well it does and spaniels could do with a bit of slowing down. a bit of skin/pad and toenail should all heal up ok. It doesnt sound like its missing anything important to me.
time will tell. Have you seen the 2 legged dog on youtube? you wont believe it until youve seen it!

Is that video supposed to show us what a great life deformed dogs can live?

I can honestly say I think the owner is a selfish person for letting that dog live and not having it PTS.

Bet they only put up the good videos with the silly happy music, not the videos showing any suffering, stress or issues it has!

When you take on a dog or breed you have a responsibility to ensure that dog is respected and if the situation ever calls for it a swift and pain free end could be the way to go.

I’m not saying that’s what the OP needs to do with his pup, suppose you will have to assess just how bad the issue is and what impact it’s going to have on the dog for the rest of the life.

Would you be willing to keep the dog yourself?

Having called vets out on many occasions, I’m not really sure what they could do in this instance.
No1 and by far the most important would be to make sure that it's pain free and remains pain free. They can also see the injury and advise you much better than us who haven't!

See post #11. And yes, the vet may be able to help on the skin side of things too. If it happened to a child you wouldn't hesitate to take it to hospital would you?

Have you ever seen the size of a puppies foot and paw? I bet most vets wouldn’t even or want to entertain doing anything anyway. Likes been mentioned, if it’s not in pain and feeding, see how it goes. As for the comment about it being a child, well it’s not a child. It’s a dog.

Are you a vet? No. You're therefore guessing. Take the guessing out of it and let the professionals decide. How do you know if the pup is in pain? It sounds like it must be to me. Not letting the vet see it is penny pinching IMO.
"well it’s not a child. It’s a dog." I have no idea what that is supposed to mean?

No but I’ve been in and around plenty of situations where I’d prefer to do the guessing, than pay somebody to do it for me. Like I said if it’s feeding and not whining it’s fine, they are very resilient. When the time comes to snip off there dew claws, they’ll just carry on feeding.

Just to put some of your minds at rest. I’m taking the litter to be docked and dew clawed and will have the pup in question checked out at the same time. I will let you all know what the vets opinion is. Thank you everything for your concerns and comments

They might refer you to the super vet and put a little robot foot on it.

Yea at the cost of £10,000+

My Mrs bought a pup, turned out to have a fistula, the vets were almost creaming in their pants it was so rare, they were literally arguing with each other over who was going to do the surgery because the experience was something special for them.

I hadn’t even told them wanted surgery.

When I asked for details they said it would be between £6,000-£10,000 and they may have to break the pups hip bones when they go in… and he was likely to have issues the rest of his life 😳

The pup went back to the breeder and we had our money back. The breeder and I shook hands on the agreement that the pup would not be allowed to suffer.

That was the best I could do for him I’m afraid.

If it were me I’d get the vet to take a look at him when you go for docking and decide then if it’s going to have any impact in the future. If it is going to have an issue then;

If no one wants to buy the pup with the deformed foot are you willing to keep it yourself?
